Scan tool, maintenance mode, press caliper. Easy quick.
You dont need a super expensive scan tool to make it happen. Just need something capable of bidirectional on whatever makes you work with.

You know what the best way is??? It's whatever works for you this guy is showing a perfectly reasonable way of doing it for those of you that may not have scanners and as a mechanic I GUARANTEE you by the time it would take to look up make model service mode etc It would already be apart and retracting piston I could understand bursting a dudes balls for putting out some complete nonsense but come on guys this is why another of really good techs don't do any videos whatsoever cuz of crazy shit in comment sections sorry about the rant but I see this so much these days had to vent

The best way to deal with electric brakes is to not buy a vehicle that has them on it!!!!

That’s a great tip because if the parking brake doesn’t disengage the owners manual tells you that is how you retract the piston. So it’s works great for brake service too. 👍

Most scan tools have the option to retract the caliper motor. Its the best way

Don’t even need a scanner for this car. There’s like a 10 second sequence you can do with the parking brake switch to fully retract both motors.

As an Audi technician, i dont know if it works on JDM but if you unplug the connector, you can press in the piston (or twist in if required). And then you hold the electric e-brake until it activated after repair

Watching your videos all the time helps me in my everyday life man. I'm a full time mechanic in California and you're killing it bro. Keep it up

Another quick way to do this is to use a power probe. They’re relatively inexpensive and way cheaper than using a scan tool and maintenance mode. What you do is hook the probe to the 12v battery and then take the plug connector off for the parking brake motor. Attach the leads to the pins and send live down. Be very mindful and careful whilst doing this because the brake piston could come out. If it’s starting to move outwards, swap the leads and then send live again. Piston will retract.

Service mode with a scan tool and you can press them in. I know Toyota/Lexus there’s a sequence you follow with the PB switch and it puts it in service mode

Toyota tech here,

easiest way to do these is to have a battery with jumper wires supplying the motor with power and ground, this allows the motor to retract back fully which allows you to fully compress the piston.

Electronic parking brakes should be illeagal and those engineers should be in jail.

EBP release took unhook the connector and use the release tool and it will retract the parking brake . Then disconnect the connector after. If there is a towing or transport mode you can use that to disengage the EBP .

It's actually simpler. Just add a motor to caliper. Gets rid of entire drum brake assembly for parking brake.

BMW tech here so im not sure if it applies to every brand but if you activate the brake pad replacement test plan you CAN press the piston in. BMW workshop instructions even says so

Don't call your local mechanic after f-ing it up. There's a whole other labor rate for fixing DIY'rs f-ups 😂😂😂

Just have the right tools, scanner on maintenance, easy to set things where needed to be the proper way.

Having worked on many Toyotas myself, all models with EPB system have a way to put it in Maintenance Mode without a scanner.
