"The Severe Style" sounds like the name of a really good album. And I appreciated the conjecture about Heracles being a sculpture - sounds highly plausible. 🙂 As for how the stories relate, I just take it as a reminder that you sow what you reap, especially with temperamental, vengeful Greek gods.

The Athenians rested at an important temple of Hercules before the battle at Marathon, I think this moment of taking refuge could be the motif on the reverse side. It's an opposite of Niobe's prideful boasting, and it led to victory.
