When you create a new world there are more settings that can help you. One of them is the difficulty. Peaceful is the easiest one. There are no monsters in that difficulty. I really suggest playing on peaceful untill you get more experience in jumping around, learn how to get critical hits, bred animals and more. You can also make a creative world that you can spawn monsters on and see how much damage they do, how they behave, or you can try different items like different types of food and weapons. You can also play on servers to get help from other players and learn on custom maps designed for what you want.

(9:42) here's a cool tip: so you see a little sword there right underneath the plus sign on the middle, it's actually a damage indicator, meaning you will have to wait for a little ('till the tiny little sword indicator is fully charged) in order to get the maximum damage! hope you see this :D
