The Best Standard Shaped Paddles for Control, All-Court, and Power

It wasn't until 2024 that the Standard shape paddle category got filled out. We now have a variety of good paddle profiles that fall into the control, all court and power categories. Here are my favorites in each group.

Good stuff. Its a good idea once a quarter or twice a year to go over the best of the best in different shapes. This would allow you get enough reviews done and tested enough. So many paddles we forget and then see this and say oh yeah I forgot about that one. this is because we are all chasing new and forget the paddles from 314 months ago.

I've hit quite a few standard shapes and my overall favorite is the PIKKL Hurricane. The feel is to my liking and one of the spinniest paddle out there,

Good vid, I like the forgiveness of a standard shape but I've wondered at what height/arm-length (lack of) do you need to consider an elongated due to reach. At what point does reach become a more important factor than the forgiveness.

Just wondering because I'm not very tall and I don't often generally see an empasis being placed on reach.

Should have included the Gruvn Lazr-16S. The best paddle I have ever used and I have owned 16 different paddles and have tried other paddles as well.

The power of the Neonic Flare Prime X and the ESQ-C are pretty close I feel like. Surprised you didn't classify it as a power paddle.

Great video! Love your insight and I know it keeps getting harder with more companies entering the market. Q: I've played Engage for quite awhile, always love the feel of the ball off the face currently playing Pursuit Pro EX 6.0. Any recommendations for something with similar feeling off the face and similar control but a little more power. I wouldn't mid going with a little thinner paddle - I know the difference isn't much but I do think the maneuverability of thinner paddles is a bit better. Favorite shot is the Drip.

I enjoyed this comparison vid. Kinda surprised that the CRBN 2x and Engage Pursuit EX were not part of it. They are both included in your Hot List. I play with the CRBN 2x and am interested in a less expensive option that plays similarly.

Wait, how did the Pickleball Apes Pulse V not make this list? I've mained elongated paddles for 5+ years coming off the Ronbus R1 Pulsar and R1 Ripple beta. Ordered the Pulse S and the V only b/c of the buzz surrounding that standard/wide body paddle. Figured I'd send both back but loved the V and sold my Ripple. Massive sweet spot, you have to work really hard to miss-hit a ball and the balance is perfect, no perimeter weighting is necessary. A buddy tried my S and bought it from me since I was sticking with the V. Got tired of people wanting to try my V so I bought another, lent it to 3 people and all of them ordered one.

I’ve tried nearly all these. I’ve played for 8 plus years now exclusively with standard shape and shorter handle paddles. I don’t believe there’s a better paddle in this category than the Gruvn Muvn 16V.
So many good choices out there but I think the GRUVN flies under the radar.
