What is the EU actually doing about Immigration?

Immigration remains a hot topic throughout the EU, especially with Meloni and Orban as EU leaders. The European Union has proposed a Pact for Immigration and Asylum in 2020, and this video looks at what this pact entails and what the EU has done so far. This is part of my EU legislation series where I will do quick 2-3 minute videos regarding EU Legislation, Directives and Resolutions.

This video forgets to mention one big problem: immigration is not a EU competency! So the members are under no obligation to accept anything.

The most important aim is at stopping them at the border and sending them back.

Calling a non-binding international aggreement to relocate 5% of one year's worth of illegal border crossing a EU policy breakthrough does not seem reasonable.

Especially when it's only two member-states that are doing almost all of it.

Absolutely no one that disrespects our (each european nation) borders, laws and, obviously, people deserves to be allowed in. I'm completely in favour of receiving those in need and that are needed, as long as they show respect for us.
Don't treat these migrants as idiots who don't know that they're doing. They know very well what happens after they pay criminals to leave them in the middle of the Mediterranean.
Recently a boat arrived in my country, Portugal, with about 10 people. The first thing they did was run and hide from the authorities. They aren't refugees or asylum seekers, they are coming here to work as very cheap labour. It's unacceptable.
Also it's easy for many to criticise other nation's decisions when countries like Spain, Italy or Greece receive every single day as many people as a country like Portugal in a year or more. So I don't criticise them for having more extreme measures.

What we need are asylum hubs in Northern Africa and Turkey so that real refugees can be spread troughout Europe and economic migrants (the majority) can't enter Europe. This has to be done with pushbacks.

I am from Croatia, and for EU. But, at the same Time I am against Immigration. I want that everyone stays in their own Country!

I think we should send a clear signal that every illegal immigrant will be found and sent to Africa. If we pursue a tough policy, then this will stop illegal immigrants and, as a result, all immigrants will apply for asylum legally. We are kind and many people use it. Better change it now, than get new rise of right-wing parties

What is the EU actually doing about Immigration?

Absolutely nothing!

I think the EU as a whole should become more proactive with investments and initiatives in the countrys and regions where the migrants are coming from to adress the causes of the issue directly and to start actively importing qualified migrants or provide education in their home country. If african leaders would call that colonialism I would ask them why they are unable to adress conflicts, terrorism and migration on their own.

Turkey is not the EU's refugee camp, the 18 March 2016 agreement (the worst deal for Turkey in history) should be cancelled. The Sèvres agreement was more fair.

The only possible way to manage the illegal migration to suspend asylum and refugee treaties (yes and unfortunately at the expense of people in real need), hearty fines for people and companies providing illegal immigrants with jobs and accommodation, substantially reducing any help to illegal immigrants but giving them an opportunity to return home (but no pocket money on return). Some of these harsh measurement might make the illegal immigration unattractive.

How about European politicians think about making LEGAL migration more transparent and convenient for high-skilled, high-paid workers to enter the market and actually contribute to the EU economy?

The citizen of europe are done with the endless migration. But the politician doesn’ t border.
The absurdity to loose all natural context in the towns and villiges is forced up on us from the EU.

Why should European countries choose Latin American migrants instead of Middle Eastern migrants:

1. Latin Americans speak Spanish and Portuguese, also spoken in Europe, and could easily learn languages like French and Italian. Middle Easterns speak Arabic, Persian or Turkish; those languages are completely different than European languages. Many Middle Easterns living in Europe don’t even want to learn the European languages.
2. Latin American countries are Christian so you won’t have to worry about religious clashes, radicalization, oppression of women wearing burqas, jihadist terrorism, etc.
3. Many Latin Americans have European ancestry. Most Mide Easterns have no European ancestry. Middle Easterns will have a much harder time to adapt and integrate to European countries.
