Google Docs: Version History

We'll show you how to recover old versions of your docs, see which collaborator made each change, and more! The version history feature makes all of these things possible. As you (or your collaborators) work on the document, Google Docs saves every change, and it allows you to view those changes in a timeline and restore previous versions.

You can even name specific versions to make them easier to find later on. By enabling the "Only show named versions" switch, you can filter the results to only show named versions.

When you're collaborating with other authors, you may see a "See new changes" button at the top of the screen. This feature uses version history data to highlight the changes that were made since you last opened the document.

Hello, I have a problem. I was working on a assignment on google doc, and I do not think that it had saved my progress and my work. It had only saved some of the work that I had done. I checked version history, and at a certain point it had stop recording my changes. I do not know how to restore my work, is there a way to do so?

Can the owner of document still see the changes we made even if we turn off the show changes button?

1:08 you say you should only revert as a last resort because you will lose all current changes. I tested this, and the original tree remains, followed by "restored: ddmmyy timestamp" followed by all other versions saved after the restore. I input some text on each version ("one" "one two" "one two three") to test this, and "one two three" was still there and restorable after I had restored back to "one". Hope this helps.
