That Seven Seas comic cover looks cool. Is that Bender from Futurama on the Startling comic cover #49? Lol.

Nice review.

Wow! How did these older comics stay in such great condition over the years? 9.0 and higher for these books is amazing.

A little over 20 years ago I was a kid and already had a passion for comic books. One day I went to the dollar store and saw they were selling comic books. I'm guessing they were leftovers and were bought off at a cheap price from some furnisher who went bankcrupt or something. They had no idea what they were selling. All of them were brand new comics from the 80's ( this was in the early 2000's, so they were already a tiny bit rare ). There were some darker titles that aren't in much demand, but some Amazing Spider-Man and the now popular Suicide Squad were in there.

Being a fan of the Ninja Turtles back then, I knew that what I was seeing was worth a lot more than a few bucks. I ended up with a bunch of first, second and third printings of the original TMNT comics. For a handful of dollars. Buying them without going crazy was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my entire life. Most of them are now worth between a few hundreds and a few thousands. I haven't sold one and don't intend to.

Leonardo #1 is by far my favorite in the lot even if it's not the most valuable. It's action packed from beginning to end and was most likely an inspiration for the first film when Raphael fights the whole foot clan, as some of the shots are near identical. I think the Turtles/Mirage Studio comics are worth mentioning when it comes to valuable non-DC/Marvel comics, although I do admit they aren't as old as the Gold Key era ones we see here.

Great vid!! Love watching vids that don't cover the exact same 20-30 comics that everyone already knows! Keep up the great work man.

Great topic. I'm a marvel as I get older I'm so interested in learning more about early publishers and characters that helped start the medium. I find the horror genre fascinating as well. Great job!

Great video James, you did forget to mention Cerebus#1 and TMNT#1 cause those are some high dollar books that aren't Marvel or DC.

always interesting seeing the old horror and crime comics, some of those prices are nuts!

And yea was bummed out hearing about Captcan's break in, that's my online shop of choice since I'm 150km from the nearest shop and in same province, pretty good rewards program too.

This is an interesting video and list. I wonder what the most valuable comics from the last couple decades have been outside DC and Marvel.

Great comics and info you don't see often. Would be cool to list which year these comics are from as well.

Really interesting topic James. I am always astounded when comics from the early 1940s turn up graded at 9.0 or above, how these books were kept out of harm's way boggles the mind; even simply storing them flat between newspapers, you'd think that deterioration of the inks and paper would have severely affected the comic's quality. Is that robot on the cover of Startling Comics #49 Bender's dad? The likeness is striking. War comics James: EC, Atlas and the beginning of DC's long-running war titles should be on the list.

Thanks for mentioning the Captcan break-in. Hopefully some of the people watching this video will see one of the books that were stolen and report it. The Captcan crew are great and it would be awesome if they get their books back.
