Inside a Slipjoint folding knife

Lots of comments about the blade edge hitting the spring bar. I agree. Normally it would have a kick. For this one, the request was for a large folder with an 8” blade as a chef’s knife, so I wanted the blade to be able to set flush on a cutting board. A kick would have prevented that. Probably other ways to address it but I chose to use metal liners and the wood scales to hold the blade tight to prevent it. Also, regarding comments about seeing it finished, there are other videos of this knife on my channel, both of me making it (link to part 1 at the bottom of this video) and the finished knife. Thanks for watching and for commenting. I’m self taught and always learning so I appreciate any and all feedback. Hope you’ll check out some of my other videos.

Лезвие не должно касаться пружины, при каждом закрывании оно будет тупиться .

I think you need to add at least 3 springs, different strengths to make it solid 😊

Need another pin further up the spine for a bit more tension on the lock.

There is so much that needs to be done to make this a truly functional, strong knife. The other comments are accurate. This is just the basic mechanism for a folding knife. I needed to see this in action, I am interested in knife making. This is an e collection tutorial of the action for a locking/ folding blade. Great beginning. I wuld like to see it expanded on to the finish. Thank- you.

Add a pin to the mechanism like they have on cold steel knives.

honestly a stop pin inside the handle near the choil would stop collision with the back spring.

If it was me I'd use a bit more metal with some ball bearing and a spring. That way it's more sturdy.

That locking mechanism almost took off my finger. Get the knives with the lock infront, not the back

Very cool concept. Id be wary of all of that shear force at those pins. You may want to the increase the diameter

Imagine the reverse thrust.. what will happen to your fingers

The edge should NEVER come in contact with the backspacing. If you examine a slip joint folder there is always a kicker at the base of the blade. It's a standoff that stops the blade just before the edge hits the backspring.

I made many of these over the years and gave them away as gifts to people that just lost them.

Ad some things steel framing around your locks and blade where it folds. So you can mount wood grip on there without worrying about the integrity of your lock and handle. If that wood breaks while you're cutting, it'll probably unlock the blade and mess you up big time. Don't let that happen to yourself.

But the thing I love about it the most is the time you and I spend making stuff and who knows what the hell else you got that you can't show nobody else because you don't want them copying you right❤
