Gotta See It: Chiasson gets game misconduct for spearing Cousins

After a whistle, Calgary Falmes forward Alex Chiasson spears Philadelphia Flyers forward Nick Cousins in the mid-section, gets a five-minute major for spearing and a game misconduct.

Rule 62. Spearing
Spearing shall mean stabbing an opponent with the point of the stick blade whether contact is made or not.
(a) A double minor penalty will be imposed on a player who spears an opponent and does not make contact.
(b) A major and a game misconduct shall be imposed on a player who spears an opponent.
(c) A match penalty shall be imposed on a player who injures an opponent as a result of a spear.

Pretty clear if you read the rules. He speared and made contact with no injury; it's an automatic 5.

Flames broadcast being homers much? Rule 62.3 Spearing Major Penalty - "A major penalty shall be imposed on a player who spears an opponent." The broadcast wanted only two minutes for that? A minor penalty for spearing doesn't even exist. Best case scenario would've been four minutes. Rule 62.2 Spearing Double-minor Penalty - "A double-minor penalty will be imposed on a player who spears an opponent and does not make contact." So, even if Chiasson doesn't make contact with his attempted spear, it would've been four. Clearly, Chiasson makes contact with Cousins. Five and a game, no question. Referees got it right.

I get that it was barely a poke, but the rule is if there is a deliberate spear of any kind it's a major and if it's accidental it's a double minor

i don't know about that being a game misconduct. i can see the major but it wasn't even that bad
