I'm in Alabama now Kevin. Building the CX-50. It's really a great car. We make the Corolla Cross here too. I like the Mazda better. Strange coming from a Toyota/Lexus fanboy like me.

I currently lease a 2020 CX-5 Touring FWD (non-turbo). This is my second CX-5, the first being a 2018 Touring AWD (also non-turbo) I find that on the relatively flat lands of Long Island (where I used to live) and Florida (where I currently live) the base engine has more than enough power to accelerate and merge.

Right now I am looking at replacing the CX-5 with a 2023 CX-50 Preferred Plus (non-turbo). The reason is that the CX-50 has a longer and wider cargo area compared to the CX-5. Yes, as you noted, with the seats down the CX-5 has a greater cargo volume, but for me, length and width are more important. I can also live with the CX-50 60/40 split rear seat instead of the CX-5 40-20-40 split seat (you missed that in your video).

As for the rear suspension, I wonder if it was done on the CX-50 for two reasons. One is that it may explain why the turbo CX-50 has the 3500 lb towing capacity, while the turbo CX-5 still only has the 2000 lb towing capacity like the non-turbo versions of both vehicles. The second reason is that it may explain why the CX-50 has a wider cargo area, since there are no struts extending into the cargo area.

Overall this was a excellent video.

I am a little concerned about manufacture in states… theres is always something special when a car assembles in Japan.

Used to have japanese is250, amazing car

I’m wondering if the CX-50 has double pane glass on front side windows because you have mentioned in older videos that the CX-5 does. Great job here! Thank you.

CX-50 is for Canada as well, just not solely for the US. Thanks for the review.

It´s nice that Mazda gives the customers the option, for more money, a little bit a bigger car 👍. Thank you Kevin 😀.

I'd gladly pay the "few grand" for the 50, its just a better looking vehicle with more room. Great review Kevin.

What’s the excuse for using a torsion beam in the Mazda 3 and the hatchback 🤨🤨🤨

Wow, I’m currently looking at these two right now.

Enjoy Kevin's reviews - am debating between the 2023 CX-5 and Lexus ES 350...both have advantages over the other....the advantages of the CX-5 is ease of getting in and out, headroom and price and probably higher % resale value. Sat in both the CX-50 and Cx-5...preferred the 2023 CX-5 seats...the CX-50 center seam pushes up in the middle creating a pressure sensation...gentle but constant and annoying at least to me...the CX-5 seats are improved from earlier years...with the seat bottom bolstering more comfortable than past models...strongly prefer the CX-5 seats over the Cx-50.

I was one of the confused ones, so thanks for the video. Love Mazda but they have to do better at market segmentation

The. CX 50 lost my vote because of that torsion beam suspension

CX50 is on the same platform as the 3 and CX30.

The CX 50 is slower than the CX 5 . Because it's heavier than the CX 5
