Not only did Jay complete a tank without an airbrush, but has had the satisfaction of clearing a chunk of his pile of shame

Only personality gw has ever put into a landraider was one of the crimson fists landraider. It continued fighting even after it's crew were killed and only stopped when it's treads became too clogged up with greenskins to continue moving.

Hell yes! Every time i look for vehicle painting vids they all have airbrushes and i don't have one, now i can finally paint my stormraven.

those stencils and that sponging/blending technique are both going to be godsends for my Necromundan Guard conversion project, especially the Tauroxes for it.

I'm so happy. This topic has been swirling around my thoughts that airbrushing is necessary for vehicles. EoB always answering my prayers.

I was very much the same (finding painting vehicles a chore), but then I started to actively eliminate painting steps and techniques in all my painting and replace it with something else that's more clever, quicker and more fun than basecoating, washing and layering. One thing that really helped me and actually made me LOVE painting vehicles was watching a LOT of scalemodeling videos here on YT. There are SO MANY techniques and products over there that are fun, easy to do, yield amazing and realistic results, and that can also very easily be incorporated into our wargaming painting niche. It even made me approach other minis apart from vehicles differently, and now I can much more focus on the fun of painting and also immensely speed up processes.
That stippling technique was amazing, BTW. And those retro flames are BOSS! Awesome result, mate!

When you said that you think about who the miniature is and what their motivations are and how long they will last in battle - this really resonated with me, as I do just this and I think what I was going to call "narrative painting" really drives me to create a better paint job, and it's easier to place dents and scratches by story rather than just randomly deciding.

By contrast, however, I *love* painting vehicles and terrain. Story doesn't need to end at personal narrative - you can ask yourself the same questions, and in my opinion, there are more things you can ask yourself about vehicles and terrain. "Who uses this?" (soldiers? police?), "Who maintains this?" (specialist experts? advanced users? idiots?) "Where is this deployed?" (urban? marsh? volcano?) "What's wrong with this vehicle?" (caught a shell near the track and it keeps falling off. concrete is cracking as the inner steel reinforcement is rusting away) "What workarounds are people using to deal with the faults" (desire paths) "Who loves this, and how do they express it?" (the freehanding work like on the side of the enola gay). There's _so_ much you can think about for a simple vehicle - and you went absolutely whole hog for this tank.

Anyway, great job on this tank. So many cool techniques and it was a joy to watch you work. I hope that you continue to enjoy building vehicles and working on that pile of *opportunity*!

My glob, man. That is a work of art worthy of the Emperor and possibly even worth the time you sank into it. Beautiful. *shed manly tear*

The way you textured your vehicle is outstanding and much more in Line with the lore of WH40k than fancy aerograph résults . You acheived a great BT land raider

This is a really useful video! Thank you very much!
I don’t have an airbrush, and one thing I am concerned about with them is keeping my area ventilated. Also those things can be pretty expensive, so finding this video helped me a lot!

Perfect timing. I just finished building the impulsor from that Vanguard Marine set, and this gives me some great ideas to try when I am ready to paint it.

I you Jay! I have painted a ridiculous amount of minis, but as few vehicles as I can lol. Bane of my painting career will always be a ghost ark, and a defiler. All without an airbrush!
