Using the TI-Nspire on the AP Calculus Exam

In this video we go over everything you need to be able to do on a TI-Nspire if you're using it to take the AP Calculus exam (AB or BC). I tried to do everything in a way that you can do it with a CAS or a non-CAS (numeric) TI-Nspire. In the video I use the TI-Nspire CX II CAS. I used some old released Free Response Questions (FRQs) to motivate the skills and show that they're really necessary.

The problems that I used are: 2007 (Form B)-3, 2007-2, 2011-1, 2006-1, 2006-2, and 2013-1. (I'd link to them but they change the url all the time, so just google for them!)

00:00 Intro
00:16 Changing to radians
01:10 Inserting problems and pages within problems
02:56 Defining functions, derivative at a point
05:32 Using division template and solving equations (using solve)
07:25 Defining a piecewise function, definite integrals on calculator
12:44 Velocity, Acceleration, speed, average velocity, distance traveled
15:37 Putting graph page in radian mode, float 6 for more decimals
17:12 Area between curves, intersection points, storing values
21:30 using the right variable, matching graphing window to given graph
23:12 definite integral on graph page
24:40 intersection points, ZoomBox, storing values, using stored values
27:00 Solving an equation by finding intersection points on graph
30:20 Finding and storing zero of a function, another accumulation function

I love you man It's painful seeing my friends using ti 84 and I'm just sitting there left out using this rocket science calculator. You are a life savior

I remember commenting here when I was about to take the Calculus BC exam (2021). I am so thankful for your help, and now that I’m in college, I’ve decided to come back to my TI Nspire (since it’s really the most complex but effective TI to rid mistakes).

Thank you again a year later, and I hope you can make some more TI Nspire videos!

do cas calculators really make things easier on calculus exams? I've literally just learned what cas stands for (after buying a non-cas one)..

I have lots of things that don't seem to match on the nspire CX school property edition. Menus are different, missing, or grey'd out. In this example, I enter the w(v):=55.6-22.1*v0.16 and it gives me the error "Independent variable is not 'x'". I do examples in videos and get errors all the time when other people get answers. Any idea what I've done to my calculator? I've reset it to factory settings and it's still just a weird calculator.

Anybody has a similar video in TI-Nspire AP Stats?

I hate to say this but my exam is in 2 weeks and I still don't have a Graphing calculator. I want to get the Nspire but I heard that it has a long learning curve, so I'm thinking of getting the 84 plus ce instead.
Can u please help me with deciding? Which one do you think is more helpful on AP Calc BC(given my time constraint)?

What is the most advance TI calculator that I can use for the AP exam? I don’t want to buy one and find out that it is banned. I also want to be able to use the same calculator in college because I plan to be a mechanical engineer (although I don’t know exactly what I’m going to be doing in terms of my math classes because I’m still in high school, I just don’t want to buy another one later on)
