There's a secret sample pack at the end of Lemon D 'TwoTechniques' (Dillinja Remix) from 1999. It has a lot of their drums and splashy percussion from the era.

Great video!! Love this dutty style. Would love an early-mid 00’s Renegade Hardware type video! Vicious Circle type stuff.

I fancy getting on a ship and going through a portal of experimental sound design. That sounds like fun.

I used to listen to drum and bass mixes on cassette tapes a lot which really softened the drums, which I liked. When you filtered the top end, it reminded me of this.

Brilliant stuff. I was all about Big Bad Bass when it came out and would follow the Valve Soundsystem around anywhere and everywhere. I'm going to be coming back to this video a lot I feel.

Great video. Thanks for the detailed walk through. I like the phasing FX. There is a Jimi Hendrix track called Bold as Love from the album Axis:Bold as Love and it has an incredible phasing on the drums. I think it was created by running 2 versions of the same drums on 2 different tape tracks and the subtle time differences created a natural phasing that was constantly moving. I can't remember exactly where I heard about it but I think Eddie Kramer was talking about it in an interview. I remember trying to recreate the effect with tape emulation plugins and I got some interesting sounds. I think Mitch Mitchell has some amazing drum fills. I have often wondered if they have ever found there way into Jungle or drum n bass but I haven't recognised any so far.

My favorite Dillinja technique is when he would filter cutoff the crash cymbal at the end of the amens and it would sound something like 8:18.

I quite often have a layered snare that goes on every other snare in the background but also I sometimes have a snare layer that follows the pitch of the chord changes. If the chord goes up by 7 semitones then my layered snare goes up 7 semitones. It's subtle and in the background but it adds to the changes.

Apparently Dillinja used to run his mixdowns to DAT so loud that the noise floor would be almost running red 🤣😂
