In general NEVER GET COMFORTABLE with any job in government or corporations. Always have something else on the side and be prepared to EXIT. Keep one foot in the door and one foot out. Keep resume updated and sent out or work on side business.

Workers don't need to be cut. Money needs to be spent domestically instead of overseas or at least cut the overseas spending.

In April 2025, I will have 30 years as a federal worker. I am 55. My MRA will be in August 2026. I am praying that layoffs considerations won’t happen before August 2026. However I am praying for all federal workers. I know one thing people need to start planning & get their money in check.

I went through mass retirements in 1992. That really hurt the office. We lost the best, most experienced people first. It took us 5 years to recover.

As if any money saved through increased efficiency will help the average US citizen. The saved money will just be wasted on inefficient contracting firms ran by wealthy members of government and retired military generals to do the same job.

I think the federal government should change the minimum retirement age to 53 (without penalty) for those with 20 years (or more) of federal work experience.

I guess they don’t realize that LESS work gets done when the office is fully staffed on any given day. It becomes a social outing. Employees are still working when they work at home, and they’re most likely more productive. At least at my agency 🤷‍♀️

I've worked for 2 departments after my enlistment was up. If the public at large knew half of what happened with tax dollars, they would be rioting in the streets. Imagine being punished because you don't use all of your budget for a fiscal year so the following year, it's cut and they won't listen as to why you now need more money for a new fiscal year. Or that stores have special government prices for goods that are about 4 times, if not more what the regular price is. That's not even the tip of the iceberg. When I got back working for the DOD, I was told you don't change the base. The base changes you. It's true. You can't fight it alone. It will take a LOT of work and time to right all of these wrongs.

My dad retired from the military after 30 years. He said he saw the government build buildings and never use them or stop the project right in the middle and it would just be there. Drove him nuts. I’m a federal worker as a social worker and am fearful of the cuts in healthcare. We are actually too low staffed in both healthcare and mental health. They aren’t hiring when someone leaves. I do get the need for cutting waste. It’s true for sure. However Elon and Vivek are not the people to do it. They have not shown in any way that they give a crap about people. Elon has too much conflict of interest with his federal gov contracts. Veterans are a population with very high mental health needs and the VA in my opinion already does a minimal job at best addressing this. MH falls under healthcare. If people are cut, services are cut. Period. Lives of Veterans and their families will be detrimentally affected.
