Lesson learned: If you’re hiding from a murderous regime, don’t hide in Kant’s house.

Man this is great. Virtue ethics is a great way to describe. Been loving your videos lately.

For me, the best example is in Exodus 1:16-21 when the midwives lied about how the baby boys were being born in order to save their lives. God rewarded the actions of the midwives by giving them children of their own.

"The worst part about being lied to is knowing that you weren't worth the truth"

I was literally praying for wisdom in faith based on James 1:5-6 about an hour ago for a situation where I didn't know how too act and be effective while holding true too what I understood of the bible and my own moral convictions. This video completely changed my understanding of things. AFAIK I've never seen this channel before I don't even know how I got here, God answers prayer and he keeps his word. I'm actually crying right now. Because I know that I haven't been living as I should be doing, this is only His grace and His faithfulness. 2 tim 2:13" if we are faithless, he remains faithful—
for he cannot deny himself."

I can only speak for myself but it's always the small things that gets me the most, that I remember fondly and look back upon. God has done some crazy things in my life, things where he really showed his power and providence too me and that's great and I praise Him for it, but the small almost insignificant things he does sometimes that's how I really know that He loves me.

I'll probably remember this moment for years, maybe even my entire life, I love you Jesus and I really don't deserve you but thank you for loving having loved me first

instant sub btw haha

Some people mistakenly believe the 9th Commandment of the 10 Commandment is a law against lying. But it's really about accusing someone falsely.

Exactly. This is difficult to explain to folks in our meme-driven society. Thanks for this video, Mike. God bless you & yours!

It’s difficult to imagine Jesus not telling the truth, but it’s more difficult to imagine Jesus collaborating with the Nazis.

That question was wondering in my mind for a while, I never thought you'll make a video about it.

I've gone back and forth on this virtually my entire adult life. When I finally think I've come to the conclusion that lying is permissible in certain circumstances such as the one you described with hiding Jews in Nazi Germany, I ask myself what Jesus would do. Cliché, I know, but I can't imagine Jesus lying in any circumstance -- including that one.

Sincerity (saying the truth) belongs to the virtue of prudence, which consists in giving each his due.
Hence saying the truth is only an obligation to someone who deserves it.

Morality is more about being wise than about following sets of rules.

I once invaded a private property to save a kitten that got itself wrapped by thorny plants (more likely was thrown into). It was a school, was at night, I clapped and no one answered, the cat was on pain... so I jumped the fence, untangled it and brought it home. Today she is 7, and is alive and well.

Not once have I ever thought that I did something wrong. Had someone seen me and called the police, I would gladly accept any punishment.

I've been trying to say this for the last few months but didn't know how to. Thanks for this.

Sometimes lying is necessary to protect others

there is another answer

lying is always wrong however not everyone is entitled to the truth

the right to have the truth is not unconditional

Before this starts, I’d like to mention that we are warned against beating false witness- specifically a lie pertaining to a person’s actions. Certain lies, for instance, like those of protecting an innocent person from persecution, are for a greater redemptive good

I hate one thing more than lying : being unfair.

I'm loving these short videos. This is why virtue ethics is the best ethical framework.

Kant (18th century) doesn't own the idea of not lying. The 5th century early church father St Augustine wrote extensively on why lying is always sinful. St Aquinas also did in the 13th century. They are the basis for the Catholic catechism, which laid out how lying is always an offense against the truth.
