I always wear a collared shirt and long pants sometimes short pants to dinner. But that’s just me, I like to get that going out for dinner feeling. It doesn’t bother me what others wear, as long as they are wearing clothes to dinner 😂
Someone’s said in the comments and it’s very true. As soon as they took the table cloth away they also removed any kind of formality.

We always order the banana split. It's available on the kids menu, and the waiter always smiles when we order it. It's yummy

While Carnival is NOT a preferred cruise, I have to say that the MDR and the casual dining options that I have experienced have been excellent. And the service is quite good. The dinner menu you showed was excellent and made me wish I was back on a ship.

I absolutely LOVED this one... :D You had me cracking up with talking to the towel animal... Very entertaining! I'm glad to see more of the "natural interaction" with the ship/crew - 15 days until our cruise on the Pride. We can't wait!!

If I could, I would wear slacks and a jacket, or the kilt, at all times for cruising. Depending on the accessories, the kilt covers the spectrum from totally casual, with a polo and sandals, to formal with French cuffs, a black bow and jacket, and everything in between. (Including pirate night.)

You may not need to dress up for the MDR, but I bet your wife enjoyed the view! I always love it when my guy dresses up a little extra. :) Whatever makes you happy within the rules of the ship is always the right move!
