Hypospadias is a birth defect in boys in which the opening of the urethra is not located at the center of the penis. The urethra is a tube that carries urine outside of the body. If it is not treated timely, it can lead to problems such as difficulty performing sex or difficulty urinating.

The causes of hypospadias in boys are unknown. In most cases, hypospadias is thought to be caused by a combination of genes and other factors, such as what the mother eats and drink and the medicine she takes during pregnancy.

The treatment of hypospadias is surgery. In this treatment, the location of the urethra tube is placed in the center of the penis with surgery. Hypospadias repair is done when boys are between the age of 6 months and 2 years. The surgery is done as an outpatient. Boys who are born with hypospadias should not be circumcised (ختنہ) at birth.
