Only five American states including California and New York offer some form of compensation for the period of maternity leave, but according to statistics, only 12% of women working in the private sector have access to paid leave. I am sure that our system of benefits for pregnant women is one of the worst in the world

I was watching her segment on maternity leave. You would think that as a woman she would be for this.... the flaws on her argument is thst she is assuming that those who go on maternity leave receive 100% of their wage... that is not true...

She is suggesting that the U.S. should adopt France's model of maternity leave is counterproductive. Well, she is right. It is very counterproductive. France does have a extremely high tax rate and employers and business are strategic when it comes to doing business in France. Do business however do not invest in france because the taxation will kill you. A large percentage of those with money are foreigners that have vacation houses there.

Cupp is wrong in suggesting that employers pay 100% of their wage. Employers do not pay and should not pay for 100% of their wage. Maternity leave is funded by Employment Insurance benefits that employers and employees pay for in premiums. They doesn't directly come out of pocket of employers.

She fails to address Paternity Leave, which is becoming a greater option for Males in the work place...

Maternity leave in our country - it is a separate issue
Until 1993, the laws of the United States did not have foreseen such a rule, in my opinion it is wildness

If you're arguing that France has is a bad fiscal model on this subject, why don't you look closer to home.... Canada has this, most of Europe also has this, what needs to be corrected not paid maternity leave.... but who should pay for this leave... who gains in the long run... not the employer but the government. The small investment of 10-80k$ in maternity leave is a small investment when you compare what this does to the national birth rate, this intern leads to a significant return on investment when these new (additional) adults join the work force.

It is no secret that the protection of payment for maternity leave is poorly developed in US

I kind of agree with her. But at the same time Some paid maternity leave sounds good as well. I think it should be a four way. 1. Gov helps only 1st and 2nd child 2. Employer helps a little 1st & 2nd child 3. Employee saves up for this. 4. Actually tax corporations and stop feeding the military so much money to help maternity leave. Something like that. I don't know what do you guys/gals think?
