Turning Red was amazing!! And I loved it! But what was up with Tyler's bullying? Someone commented that maybe he like Meilin, but I really don't think that's the case.

It is pretty realistic(the part about them immediate forgiving Tyler over there love for 4Town), people these days can go from being enemies one minute, realize they obsess over the same thing, and instantly become best friends.

The fact that Tyler embarrassed Mei so much throughout the movie and people assume that Tyler likes her because he embarrasses and bullies Mei is just funny to me.

“He’s bullying you because he likes you” is the worst thing you can say to anyone. That’s is a bs excuse made by adults that are too lazy to be bothered to try and put a stop to the harassment

Edit: I was on the receiving end of this line multiple times as a young teen

I thought that Tyler was actually written to be in the closet but Pixar was downplayed by Disney because they think it was too much storyline and how they were passive aggressively snubbing Pixar works.

I always hated that too.
I wasn't bullied by any guy, but some guys spent a lot of time trying to piss me off when I was little.
That was super frustrating and I hate when people say that's because he has a crush on you.

When I saw the movie, everything struck me in just the right amount of "yeh, I can see a middle school preteen act that way" (magical red panda transformation aside). Anything from the way the children talk, through Mei being 100% that being in 8th grade means she is an adult and has no time for messing around, to how Tyler and the girls develop an unbreakable bond simply from realizing they are in the same fandom. It felt like looking at my middle school self

I personally loved how they just included him super lovingly after seeing him at the concert. Idk I think it was super wholesome and makes kids understand that you can be nice to people who aren't nice to you.

I was harassed in a school closet by a guy who “liked me”. After my mom told the school a week later (reason being my mom found me crying from it and asked why I didn’t say anything cause I was scared he would hurt me if I did tell), the school didn’t do anything and we still had shared classes (I was a grade younger than him but our classes where basically so small they would put them together in a few areas). I was pretty hurt and still dealing with trauma from it (mainly panic attacks around larger/huge groups of guys, I’m a pretty small person over all and I just get very uneasy in those situations). Several people even defended him saying “it’s just a guy thing” “he just likes you” “don’t be over dramatic”.
That’s why I absolutely hate when people say “Oh he likes you” when he bullies and harasses the girl he “likes”. In my opinion it should be taken seriously cause its an awful way to show affection.

Probably not relevant but still. I have a strong opinion on the topic .-.

The reason that Tyler was added into Mei's friend group so quickly, was because He helped Miriam, Priya, and Abby with the beat, while 4town sang, so Mei would sing along to something while pulling her mother into the circle of salt

I absolutely agree with you. I used to be bullied by a guy who later told me, that he did that because he likes me but that didn’t made anything better. I hated him and I still do.

I think them forgiving him so fast was because either they knew that he was just not able to express himself before and now he can with them or the writers showed perfectly how kids sometimes just forget about things and don't hold anyone accountable like adults do.

I like the way my parents did it. They'd straight up be like, "Yeah he might be teasing you because he has a crush and doesn't know how to express it. But that doesn't mean you have to stand for it."

He bullied her out of jealousy and because he was insecure. Mei, from his perspective, is weird. However, Mei has friends. Mei is comfortable with who she is. He, on the other hand, is insecure. He hid the fact that he liked 4 town out of fear that he'd be made fun of. He obviously doesn't have many good friends. We see at his birthday that they only wanted to go because Mei would transform into the red panda. So, I truly believe it boils diwn to jealousy and insecurity.
