I came to japan alone and really appreciate how much the country caters to solo diners. Never once have I felt awkward or out of place trying to get a meal by myself.

I think I said ticket barrier, but I meant plastic barrier :) they have them to separate people for more privacy

As someone who has social anxiety I think Japan would really be a good place to visit

I solo dine a lot! No one minds as much as you think they might. Only downside is not sharing plates and trying more foods. I like to bring a book.

One thing I loved about France too was that people eat out alone at nice restaurants.

I went from watching a Mexican family having a cookout making carne asada on the grill all eating outside of their ranchero, to watching a Japanese food video in a modern city in Tokyo about eating in a self serve restaurant. With a kiosk and tickets to observe a seat. So dramatically different cultures, I love it!

I used to be very self-conscious about eating alone, but after I started traveling more, I was like...I'm not gonna miss out on all these local dishes or only ever eat streetfood while walking around!
So I started eating at restaurants by myself and it was totally fine. Now I'm not worried about it anymore, even at home. It's not something shameful 😊

As an introvert, i would definitely enjoy my time being alone and assume it as the best day of my life in japan

I’ve always wanted to try to eat a meal alone but feel comfortable at the same time, I do that in college but I feel like my surroundings are too chaotic to feel peaceful 😂

My grandson wants to go so bad (and South Korea) mainly for vending and 7/11’s. He’s young and we started a “”Japan” fund from loose change. Lol
He’ll watch Japan and South Korea videos for hours. He’s amazed.

As an introvert with 3 friends, I’ve never
Been bothered with the idea that it may be
Awkward to eat alone. I don’t get any odd
Looks, or questions on why I’m by myself.

I’ve found that no one really seems to care,
So long as you don’t look like you were
Expecting someone else to show.

Maybe it’s because I’m not particularly
Anxious, or maybe it’s because I’m simply
Too busy enjoying the food. It does help that I usually go for a table farther
Away from everyone else in the restaurant…

My husband passed away 7 years ago and I don't care to date. I like being alone and dining out by myself. Except here in U.S. people tend to eat out in groups. Sometimes I'm made to feel uncomfortable when people stare because I'm by myself. I've even had waitresses ask me if I'm expecting someone or dining alone. 🤔😕
