a real hot take would be to agree that ukraine’s 2022 song was actually good asf. (i’m saying that it’s not a hot take to say what the video said because everybody already says that).

but let’s be unbiased towards the song for a second. that gorgeous flute and the catchy ass raps? cultural serves? nobody did it like them.

but here’s another hot take - they wouldn’t win if it weren’t for the war not because they were undeserving but because jury usually fucks up the eastern countries a lot of the time. they don’t like them to win. and ukraine as an eastern country sends a lot of songs that public likes and they always come close to winning, it’s up to the jury to not let ukraine be like sweden (consider that point gap jurys gave loreen this year), a country that has won most times, you know?

Exactly Ukraine could have won with any aong but atleast they they tried to make something people enjoy and in my opinion its definitely a song that deserved a win

While you're not wrong about Ukraine I do think Stefania being in Ukrainian and incorporating and celebrating Ukrainian culture definitely gave it another leg up in the context of the invasion that a random English pop song wouldn't necessarily have invoked

That is true with the Ukraine one but honestly i still think despite that they would have done well with that song just my opinion because i actually do like that song alot with the catchy rap and the flute

Chanel was a standout for sure, her charisma, energy, talent, vocals, dance skills they’re all top notch. Revolutionary? I really dont see it. But would she have won if it weren’t for the war - most definitly likely! And it’s a cool modern song with a national touch. Definitly the objective worthiest winner. But categorically disagree that any Ukrainian song have won. They had a unique sound, and hit a lot of the same points as Spain, plus an emotional melancholy that made it hard to not feel for what the country is going for, definitely the right winner. Why? Because. It. Won.

1. 100% agreed, although stefania could still defo win the televote without the war and finish top 5
2. ig for the impact this year sure (what with all the dance breaks, unicorn basically being a more pop version of slomo), but it all started with eleni for me and not chanel
3. up there 100%
4. finished higher with the televote than the juries which is simply a glitch in the matrix these days for sweden, i think the public found the laid back attitude refreshing and imo it's deserved
5. put it this way, any other country and malta finish at least 12th this year and NOT last, like how tf did that only get 3 points ffs? like bloodbath semi sure but 3
