Good morning everyone and welcome to today's UK weather forecast on Sunday 30th January 2022
Current Situation: Hot on the heels of Storm Malik a new area of low pressure - Storm Corrie - will sweep in to the north of the country later today bringing Gail and severe gale force winds to much of Scotland.
Today:
Sunday starts cold and calm with a widespread frost in the north.
Through the day wet and windy weather will sweep eastwards across Scotland and Northern Ireland but much of England and Wales will stay dry if rather cloudy this afternoon. The rain will turn to snow on high ground across Scotland but some snow to lower levels in the far north. Winds will reach gale force across the northern half of the country with severe gales likely for Scotland by this evening. Gusts of 70-90mph are likely for some parts of Scotland this evening. Temperatures will range from 1C to 7C north to south.
Tonight:
Severe gales will continue across Scotland with the strongest winds transferring into the north sea by morning. Clearer skies will spread southeastwards across the country but there's likely to be wintry showers in the north and west. Across Scotland snow could fall to low levels in places. It will be a cold night with temperatures falling to -3C in the far north but southern counties will be milder at 7C.
Tomorrow:
Most places start dry and sunny but clouds will thicken from the Atlantic through the day with patchy rain across western Scotland and Northern Ireland by days end. Temperatures 1C to 7C.
Outlook:
Tuesday: Bright and chilly in the north but very mild and cloudy in the south.
Wednesday: Rain pushing eastwards across the northern half of the country. Mainly dry in the south.
Thursday: A band of heavy rain sweeps eastwards followed by sunny spells and wintry showers. Colder.
