Coming from a focusrite scarlett solo my new ssl 2+ blew it out the water. Better sounding vocals and recording ability being that it has its own headphone and speaker monitor volume control so I don't have to turn off my speakers everytime I wanna record some bars.

If you're a bedroom rapper, Pod caster, etc. Get the SSL. If your a Recording Engineer just starting out or want something a little mobile for at home get the Audient. Eventually as a engineer you are going to want to add gear out of the box. Compressors, EQ's PreAmps. This is very very hard to do with the SSL2+ because of the RCA jacks instead of 1/4 inch. Also Voice going in is very important but better conversion on your output is going to lead you to make better choices in mix. Improving quality all around instead of just one element.

I've got iD14 mark II. Very satisfied. The Audient and it's preamps change everything. Also D.I. input in the front save a lot of stuff when we record guitars and basses. The best home studio interface

The visuals and the presentation is top notch! Jacob done came a long way! 1 of the best reviewers and super honest and transparent audio guys on YouTube! Thank you!

3:01 Personally I love the inclusion of RCA ports, like you can quickly test your mixes on popular PC speakers like Audioengine and Edifier which is a super important part of DIY-mastering your own music.. the way i do it before i upload my songs on spotify, KRK monitors, airpods, JBL bluetooth speaker, Edifier PC speakers, best selling Logitech crappy PC speakers, Laptop and last but not least in my car, if it sounds good in my car then the song is finished.

Interesting, yeah. The SSL2+ would've been my choice going into this comparison, but I'm still a bit surprised here. Thanks for your insight, bro...

In 2025, what is the best audio interface under $300¿

I am tired with the audio drop out on my steinberg interface

The ID14 is a bit cleaner and more neutral sounding while the SSL a bit fatter and warmer with a distinctive coloration but at the same time a bit less transparent. I guess the ID14 therefore may be better for vlogs and voice overs and the SSL better for vocal tracks in music.

Went for the Audient, i dont need to record instruments or vocals. So the sound output was the defining factor for me. Thanks for the video!

Great video and thanks for the comparisons. For me what I liked about the Audient ID14 Mk2 was that the preamp‘s were virtually noiseless, super quiet. Cranked up to the max and I could barely hear anything. Whereas the SSL had a significant more amount of noise but the vocals just sounded a lot better, clearer, punchier, fuller sound both on dynamic and condenser microphones. It also has a hotter output due to the higher gain of 62 DB. Since the mic preamp‘s are more important to me than it was definitely SSL hands-down the winner. So I was perfectly happy with the SSL 2+ that is until I heard the RME Babyface Pro FS at a friends house this past week and I was completely floored. My jaw dropped at the astonishing clarity and sound that that little audio interface produces. Now it’s hard for me to listen to the SSL.

Great test bro! Mr personally I’d go with the SSL. Ever since I was a kid I’ve dream of owning a 8000 G Series Console. But sadly I never had 250k laying around. SSL preamps have a color to them you can’t recreate. Now I’m waiting on Neve to bust out an interface for us modest musicians. 💯

The Audient was cleaner, clearer and more transparent....maybe on the clinical side? The SSL was a bit warmer and fatter and more pleasing to the ear. BUT I don't know which one of them would produce vocals that would be easier to work with in a mix OR which one of them would produce vocals that could take eq or effects better. @Jacobdark - Did you use both interfaces for recording and see how they performed in the context of mixing? Big thanks!!

hello, I have an HD600 and with my Focusrite the sound is good but I do not take full advantage of the dynamics of the headphones. At Thomann, he told me to take the iD14 to have more power for the headphones, but for the options and the brand I trust SSL more ... what do you advise me ?

The Audient iD14 MKII has a superior ADC dynamic range, with 126 dB A-weighted versus the SSL 2+ MKII’s 116.5 dB A-weighted for the mic input path. Even at the converter’s maximum potential (120 dB for SSL’s line outputs), Audient still leads by 6 dB. This difference is audible in critical applications (e.g., classical music recording) where faint details in quiet passages matter, though in typical music production, both are excellent and the gap may be less perceptible.
