I've always been confused as to why still water boats need such high horsepower engines. I've been fishing offshore Bluewater since I was 5 years old back in the 60's. My last boat a 21 foot mini game boat that ran a 2004 model Merc 140 HP, 2.4 litre, V6, 2 stroke and the boat's dry weight was around 1200kgs. Never ever needed more power than that provided and there was no way in hell you could run W.O.T. on open water - you would beat the boat to pieces along with yourself.

What’s so important about a hole shot on a fishing boat? The fish will still be there.
