1st thing I do when building a rig is spray the whole inside of van/truck(Etc, ) with truck bed liner .   If ya use antibacterial spray on things that get wet, it keeps mold at bay .  I find that burning a " Kandle Heater " stops all the humidity  .   Happy campin

I like 4" self inflating camp mat and a foam topper. I can adjust the firmness. Keep the mat open when going up in elevation.

I agree with Go Cirf. a few computer fans installed under the bed just might help. I have a few 5 inch I could send if you like.

Get some of the patio wood stain. Will protect the wood so it doesn't get moldy. You might need to make sure it won't be giving off harmful fumes. But I am sure there is a way to protect the wood.

You should add some cedar wood planks into your bed planks. Or put pieces of it under the bed. It's a natural way to help remove moisture from the air and act as a dehumidifier.

Damn that sucks I wonder if varnishing the wood would help some? I live in a very humid tropical 🌴 climate and it seems to help with that. It's very beautiful where you guys are!! Keep safe! Much ❤️

I can hardly wait until you do a plumbing project and show us your plumber's crack. LOL Just warn us first! Great job building your slat bed.

I'm making a camper out of plywood. I've sealed every square inch with epoxy resin. Humidity is our enemy.

I was terrified of mold when I was building out my van, so I installed a slat bed frame. On top, I bought one of those mattress-in-a-box's off Amazon and a waterproof, bug-proof mattress bag. Inside, I threw a bunch of those silica moisture absorbers on the bottom to help a little bit. 1 year in, so far no mold!

lol "your not wearing any shoes" someone had to say it, good you caught that problem and put in a slat base so the underside of the bed can breath

Am glad that it worked so well and it's a great example of reuse! Nce job Paul! I don't have the link, but our 12" memory foam (overkill, but comfortable) is treated against mold. I don't know that there is one where the cover is as well, but we haven't had any problem. If I can dig up the link, I'll put it in. Enjoy a great week!

Yeah when I was living on my 27' sailboat, I had similar mold issues. Had to build a slatbed in the forward V birth area and put the foam mattress on top. I also picked up a cheap fan, and fitted it at the end so i can plug it in and it would blow the air out from the bed area to help keep it dry. Was hand stitchig a leather mask while wathcing 'er listening lol. Start working on the transit. I have a 2010 FTC too

Install a couple of cpu fans (computer fans)for circulation under the mattress or bed frame to keep air flow

condensate... horrible for small RVs. Need to swap out that exhaust fan.. or get one. and i find using a very low power one will keep out mold from growing. and spray bleach is the bomb diggity..

Paul add an automotive a/b switch to the battery bank. I use two on my bus to charge two battery banks. Lithium and agm. One switch is for the solar bank a or b and one switch is for the inverter ban a/b
