Young Onset Colorectal Cancer

Jessica’s story reminds us how important it is to bring the younger generation into the conversation about colorectal cancer and helping them gain access to screening resources. Colorectal cancer isn't an "old mans disease," and is being diagnosed in the younger generations at an increasing rate. We need to empower them to advocate for themselves and educate them on preventative care.

Genetic testing is a form of preventative care that can help people of all ages plan for what their bodies need. Jessica’s diagnosis of Lynch Syndrome helped her advocate for herself. It’s also the reason why she is being treated with immunotherapy rather than chemotherapy. 95% of those with Lynch Syndrome aren’t even aware that why have the mutation.

Agreed!!! Thank you for sharing. I was having symptoms for 1yr+, i saw numerous specialists, many er visits for pain. I was 29yrs old, having given birth 2 a healthy baby 2 years prior to digsnosis. I was finally diagnosed with stage iv terminal cervical cancer. After being in t icu for 3 wks in complete kidney failure and fighting for my life. CANCER wasnt even considered bc of my age!!! That was 14+yrs ago. I survived but am left totally disabled, in chronic pain, and a whole host of medical issues due to t cancer treatment. Im constantly admitted to the hospital, and i have spent about a 3rd of my last 14 years as an impatient. Tho i am grateful to b alive, i can't help but think if someone listened in the beginning, I'd be in a far different position. Plz u know ur body best... keep going, someone will believe u!!!!

I've had symptoms since I was around 18 years old. Never sought help until 26. I am now 27 an have had a colonoscopy done. Whilst my bowel looks healthy, doctors are now persuing other options.
Don't wait to seek help. It was a limiting nightmare, always having to know where the nearest toilet was.

Maybe pms2 should be taken more seriously. I have it, and everything I've read pretty much downplays it as not really serious compared to the other mismatch repair genes.
