The first guy is amazing in how he says so much while communicating so little.

The guy from classification of subs should have been first witness. I learned so much and understand more of the entire situation.

The class man is even a greater woodpecker as the scotman! Excellent comprehensible presentation!

Please give my complements to Mr. Roy Thomas. His presentation was excellent. My brain drained rapidly of glucose and I had to take a break (lol) but it was comprehensible. It also shows that there was a pathway for oceangate to follow. It would have been tedious, not guaranteed to be successful, but it would have been there.

Stockton: "Oh look. There's a bump. Just sand it off." Employee: "Yes sir, right away."

The first guy had to leave so the company could become the success that it is today 🤪

Some thoughts based on the testimony and the comments here:

1. These hearings aren’t on YouTube to entertain people. They are supposed to inform the public. Breaks are taken during the hearings and work is done during most breaks, while some are just comfort breaks. It’s weird that comments are criticizing how often breaks are taken.

2. The PowerPoint was SUPER informative and verrryyy helpful to highlight WHY CARBON FIBER should never have been the choice for a submersible that was intended to go to Titanic depth.

3. Yes, there is a LOT that goes into being classed. The fact that that all of these standards were seen as irrelevant or burdensome to Rush, is frightening. We have regulations and rules to protect the public. Aviation faces a ton of strict rules (although with the FAA we luckily have an industry where regulations are enforced) and the reason is that we need to ensure safety of human lives as much as possible.

This co founder is slimy. He was looking to get rich. Wonder why he really left? He sure is forgetful about his role in anything of substance. And he knew that he was testifying today and has been viewing the other testimonies so that should have given him a idea of the questions that he would be asked. I just find it odd that he doesn't possess anything that would remind him of dates or meetings that he had. Emails, anything. And he name drops an awful lot for someone who doesn't remember anyone's name or role in the company. Surprised he's not a politician 🙄

That first man is lying through his teeth to save himself. I don't trust him as far as I could throw him. I can literally hear the hissing of this snake

Didn’t have a successful 1/3 scale test so definitely makes sense to go ahead and just build a full scale with different processes…… 🤦‍♂️

How this Oceangate Founder insists how the desire to go deeper than 1000M like it's some tourist destination instead of an insanely dangerous environment devoid of any tourist value beyond simply a logistically physical barrier to ignore on the way to the Titanic, is simply cognitively dissonant to the reality that you can't frame this tragedy as unpreventable when the former CEO ignored every rule, regulation, and actual risk that should've prevented not only his death but the others' he coerced into his tin can grave. Oceangate needs to face the full consequences of the experimental submersible that was so insanely underbuilt doomed from the very start that ended four innocent lives for the deluded ambitions of an overfunded novice desperate to thread every loophole to sell expensive seats to the unwitting.

Mr. Söhnlein, a simple yes or no would suffice.

So far, I have watched every minute of this hearing. The word "astounding" comes to mind, but is much too kind.

none of the sub builders 'could do that' or WOULD do that'? one word makes a huge difference.

I always thought it was at least a five inch hull, manufactured in one go. Now it turns out it's a five times point-x inch hull. They compromised every layer of carbon fiber that they sanded into. With a couple of bumps anywhere on the circumference, basically a constant fraction of the material must be neglected, Plus the deviation from roundness to cause a bump in the first place. It's also hardly possible to clean the sanded hull properly. Subsequent layers were laminated onto a cured surface that had been contaminated with microscopic carbon dust and abrasive material from the power sanders. That's a remarkable testimony.

I know more about the co-founder now than I know about myself.

I think I was an 04… how the F do you not know your rank when you exit the military? 🤦‍♂️

OMG, sanding into carbon fibre... One small mistake doing that breaks the strand integrity of that layer. You have to resolve the issue why the bumps occur, NOT sand them out. Wow.

Those poor families. Having to listen to this former CEO talking about Titan INSPIRING people and ‘innovation’. That is disgusting and so disrespectful.
