How to easily move multiple Wi-Fi devices to a new router or Wi-Fi network

This is a simple tip to help you move your home Wi-Fi devices over to a new network without the hassle of doing each device individually. Using this you can basically move your phones, TVs, Tablets, smart home cameras, etc, etc, etc to the new Wi-Fi network really easily and quickly.

This assumes you already know the network name (SSID) of your current/old Wi-Fi network and know how to change the password.

Usually you can access router settings by visiting:
192.168.0.1 in your browser.

There may be alternative URLs or apps you can use. Check your broadband providers sites for more info.

The steps are:
Install new router.
Login to new router and change the network name SSID to the same name as your old network.
Do the same with the password.
Login to your old router and disable Wi-Fi/change the name of the network.

This guide assumes you're using the old router as the modem from your ISP and then simply pushing the internet through that via ethernet cable into the new Wi-Fi router.

Doing this should automatically move ALL the devices in your home to the new network. If you have trouble with any PC or Windows machine, tell that device to forget the network and then re-connect to it again. That should fix it, but otherwise it should be smooth sailing.

I've been using this method for years, thought I was the only one. I live in Florida and lightning strikes are inevitable, so replacing the router unfortunately is a necessity. Glad you made a video on this.

While I came to this video for the tip, the part I learned was that "Rew-ter" is still correct and just British English. Immediately the first thing that stood out to me was the pronunciation difference. Also, thanks for the tip in the video. I was hoping I could keep these the same and it would work. So glad too as there's like 30 devices to reconnect otherwise in our home...

Lol.. This is VERY weird but coincidental.. I just installed my new router tonight and came to the internet for a fast way to change all my smart devices at once.. I was also shopping online earlier for a Corsair keyboard, and it was your video that helped me out (I commented earlier regarding the K100 I bought thanks to your comparison video!), What are the chances though of you helping me out with two completely separate incidents in 1 night! 😂😂😂😂
Thank you again 😂😂😂 Clearly the Universe wants me to subscribe to you, so I've subbed lol 😂😂😂

So I’ve got the Virgin Hub 3 and I’m getting the Hub 5 tomorrow and plan on replacing it.
Is it possible for me to just change the SSID and password of the new router or do I have to keep the old one plugged in, change it’s name, then change the new name to the old name?

Iv been using my isp router for years, iv now ordered a Amplify Alien Mesh router that can have 3 SSIDs, 1 WiFi 6 2.4ghz, 1 WiFi 6 5Ghz and 1 WiFi 5 5Ghz bands. My old router from my ISP only is only a WiFi 5 router and has two bands the 2.4ghz and the 5Ghz. So for this method to work will I still need my old router ? when I get my amplify router I can just change the SSID and password for the 2.4ghz and 5Ghz to what my dual band isp provided WiFi are and my devices will move to the new router ? I have a lot of devices, over 80+ devices and would be a pain in the ass to connect everything again. ? In the description you say this guide is for if I’m using my old router as a modem ? I don’t understand that? I have a modem connected to the router, and am swapping out routers . Will this work or not ?

Hello! Does this setting work if I am shifting from one provider to another provider? Essentially I am removing one modem and replacing with other provider's modem?
