Carnivorus Plant Almost Smashes The Huge Prey.
Meet the Venus flytrap, one of the most fascinating carnivorous plants in the world. Its leaves are modified into two hinged lobes that can snap shut, trapping and digesting insects and other small prey.
But did you know that on rare occasions, the Venus flytrap has been known to capture and digest small frogs, lizards, and even small birds? When an insect or other prey touches the trigger hairs on the lobes, the leaves snap shut, trapping the prey inside. The leaves then secrete digestive enzymes that break down the prey's soft tissues, allowing the plant to absorb the nutrients it needs.

While it's not common for the Venus flytrap to capture larger prey, these instances are a testament to the plant's incredible adaptations. So next time you see a Venus flytrap, take a moment to appreciate the unique and fascinating ways it has evolved to survive in its environment.

Sometimes prey is too large for the fly trap. It has a reaction for this situation as well. If the Venus fly trap cannot shut its leaves together completely within 6-12 hours it’ll open back up. This is because it realizes it caught prey that’s too large and it’s pretty much useless to digest if it’s digestive enzymes drip out of its leaves.

As a child I always thought avoiding the venus flytrap would play a bigger role in my adult life than it really did lol

I remember one time I went to work (I used to work in a garden center) and found that one of our venus fly traps tried to eat a praying mantis. The fly trap was too small though, and only managed to close around it's midsection. It ended up killing both the mantis and itself

Fun fact : they evolved like that because the soil where they were growing dont have enough nutriments BUT if you put them into a soil that has everything they require, they dont need to eat insect anymore
