QuadForce Xtreem Cheap Video Drone Costco Toy Review & Test Flight Crash

Everyone loves a cheap RC video drone quadcopter, let's investigate the Xtreem QuadForce Video Drone which I purchased from Costco Australia. I was curious to see how good the camera footage is from this cheap drone, as the toy boxing says it takes "out of this world video". I found the drone was easy to fly but the 720p recording video camera was just a piece of junk. Flight times were lucky to be 5 mins and to recharge it takes 1 hour via a 5 volt USB connection. The quad chopper is robust and fairly responsive and maybe the best way to look at this remote control helicopter toy is to think of it as a litmus test to see if you're prepared to spend over $500 for a much better unit. My daughter had no problems flying this video drone and even my 5 year old son could get short flights from the first use of the toy. One major problem with this cheap quad drone is understanding the video camera. It's so easy to lose a whole recording unless you turn on and off the camera before draining the batteries or having a crash. One nagging problem is the generation of zero byte files and this is a fairly common topic related to these cheap toy drones. After reading a number of web forums related to this problem I was aware of what to do to record and save a video captured by this drone.

The Swann web site has this info about this quad chopper.

The QuadForce Video Drone moves flying to a new level with 4 axis and a lightweight yet durable construction, you can fly in any direction. It's not limited by gravity, only your imagination.
More power with 2.4GHz frequency. Leave infrared in the past, as this Drone uses the latest 2.4GHz frequency for a strong signal indoors or outdoors up to 330ft / 100m and a unique 360 degree flying experience that makes RC helicopters seem out-dated! It's the perfect toy for anyone looking to graduate from a traditional RC helicopter to something a little more challenging.

Record videos of your aerial feats!
The QuadForce has talents most RC toys only dream of. With an onboard color video camera and MicroSD card stored in the undercarriage, you can record color (720p resolution) videos or stills of your flights. From there you can transfer the files to your favorite websites such YouTube & Vimeo. It’s easy to get started. Simply add 4 x alkaline AA batteries to the remote control then charge the chopper using the USB cable for up to 50 minutes. Once charged, you’re up and away with 8 minutes aerial flying time per charge!

When you were 1st flying it I thought you had somebody filming because I thought "how is he going to hold camera and fly it?" But you did - great skills - lol. That tilted view reminds me of being in a villain's lair in the old Batman TV show. As far as having the 0 byte files and not recording, I even had a similar experience with my gopro. If i don't stop the recording and the camera turns off for or stops recording on its on for any reason, it will not save the file. I lost a 35 minute snorkeling video I was making in Mexico. After that I learned to just stop recording if I filmed something good then start the recording over. I thought the on camera video for your drone was decent enough for something cheap, but I, m comparing to the low def airhog we used to have. That one really was rubbish. Enjoyed the video!

I have a Hubsan quadcopter it's bigger than your nano quad and I've crashed it a couple times, breaking the rotor blades (replacements aren't pricey) but if you break a motor it's hard to replace it yourself. I had to repair it at some RC shop :)

Hehe that Drone looks pretty fun! Shame about the short battery life. It looked to fly pretty well for a cheaper product. Your kids seemed to have fun which I guess is the main thing.

Seems to be a good flyer; the little propeller protectors are interesting; the one you gave me (which lost its life to a tree incident) had foam 360 around the blades, but the little soft fender things look like they're doing the trick.
Not surprised about the video; for professionals I believe they have robotic drones that connect to your phone and can be programmed to fly alongside/in front of etc the phone, so they can follow you while you walk etc. However the short play time will always kill these for me.

Have you seen the Xiaomi Yi camera, the video quality from it is excellent for the price. Techmoan's channel has some clips. Also, install VLC player which can pretty much play any video type instead of using the crApple player.

Hey Leo, and flight crew! Good video. I for one thought the footage looked nice, it had good color, and was surprisingly clear. Keep flying, but warning, this hobby can be very addictive, and become costly :) Thumbs up!~~John

Wish companies can come up with more creative ideas that works with this kinda stuff that I see over and over again.. And strange how cheap those RC helicopters are, even comparing it with our USA pricing.

Wow this looks very cool indeed. It's a shame about the zero byte file though but I would would still be happy with a quadcopter. I'm sure this would would be interesting to compare to a Phantom 3 or something high end.

I have a drone with a camera that I got from RadioShack. It's small but it flies very well and the picture quality looks good too. I lost the charging cable so can't fly it now :( The cheap drone camera looks disappointing, especially if you fly it high up for taking pictures. WLToys make inexpensive high quality drones. They fly pretty well and they usually come with a little module on the bottom of the drone. Those little modules each have a different function. Such as a crane, a water sprayer, and a camera. I'm fairly curious about that cheap Target helicopter, I had one very similar to it. I broke the tail motor while flying it and after that it wouldn't go forwards or backwards anymore. The cheap helicopter appears to have a broken gear, or worse the motor that drives that gear is broken. If the motor is broken it probably cant be fixed.

Impressive little thing, but the battery life is what kind of kills it, coupled with the somewhat long charge time. Still kind of nifty.

:15 is what happens to my drone the first time I flew them. The vid cams on the lower cost one are pretty bad. Bebop drones are mucho better

Awesome video! To be completely honest I think the camera isn't too bad because the quality's quite good but I have to admit that the audio is quite bad. So in the end it's 50/50 in my opinion. I can't wait for your next video :)
