Shooting with a 60 year old camera

Well, I bought a TLR for the first time. It's a Yashica Mat LM that I got off Ebay for $150, and in this video I have no clue if it works at all. It shoots medium format film in a 6x6, and is super fun for both portraits and landscapes. The dogs and I hop in Big Green and drive into the woods to meet our friend McKenna to take some portraits and drink some coffee. Shooting Portra 800 film of course, with scans by State Film Lab, my absolute favorite lab that I have been using, going on 7 years now.

I prefer these types of videos. Laid back, no music, cool environment, and good comparisons between flim and digital.

Nice to see a regular guy not ones running around in a $100 k camper you make a person feel they could do the same thing
I'm 78 and get out with my Mamiya C33 and Fuji xt20 as much as I can
You are an inspiration thank you

Those are tremendously beautiful images to get out of a $150 camera. And I love to spot you chose on the bridge over the partially frozen river.

Love to see the real stuff! Great analog and digital combo thing, threating the digital as analogue and not shooten 1.000 pictures. Inspirering!

It’s always a good day when you post! In an era where most of us has a short attention span your videos are among the few that catch my attention and hook me in, I can watch them without checking my phone or thinking “how long is this?!”. And as a side note I recently started taking portraits of people and it is the scariest thing (idk why), I always thought pros like you plan every shoot shot by shot. It was kind of comforting to see that it’s not the case and even you make up/change stuff on the fly. :)
P.S. FM 7 was one of the best purchases I made last year, can’t wait to edit more photos with them.

V chill, loved the vibe of this video and it's always fun to hear other photographers talk through their decisions when framing up a shot. Would watch more of this style of video for sure.

I really like you way of making YouTube videos. Very enjoyable. You’re making beautiful pictures in that weather! I live in a similar climate (Sweden) and it’s hard to find motivation to get outside shooting when the weather is just a gray cold snowy mess. Keep up the good work and keep posting. Greetings from Sweden

Loved the video and what a great location. You killed it with the props. Your work is so solid. Great to see the behind the scenes.

Really glad to have come across this vid! I love a mix of film and "vintage" digital. The whole shoot had a cool but still humble/casual aesthetic. Love using my Rolleiflex automat TLR (replacing the ground glass with one that features grid lines from Rick Oleson helps with composing, and I have that same 40mm on my 5D classic (favorite lens for sure!)....I'd love to try a Q someday..
