This brief doc wasn't long enough. I can't get enough of the Mariana Trench, having lived on Guam as a kid, but beyond personal experience, it's a fascinating place. Anyway, thanks Simon for the glimpse.

So yesterday we did Space and now we do the Mariana Trench. Literally the furthest things apart back to back. Love it.

Western Pacific Bio Twang sounds like a mermaid music genre.

Kind of astounded you didn't include recordings of these sounds that showed up twice in this list.

Here's hoping our tech eventually becomes advanced enough for us to explore it regularly

I'll be sad if James Cameron isn't on the list. I'm pretty sure he just lives down there now.

I sometimes think we don't deserve this planet. Thanks for the videos

My dad sadly deceased now did tell me that at the end of WW2 he sailed out on the cargo ship he was on at the time to dump unused ammunition into the Marianas trench. so there are more than just plastic wrappers down there. and I suspect his was not the only ship to do so.

Western Pacific Bio-twang is my favorite subgenre of country music.

When I first saw the ad for The Meg, I thought it was a Family Guy spinoff movie, thinking of their Star Wars episode where Meg was the moster in the garbage compactor. How disappointed was I to find out it was just another jaws.

Love this! I'm interested in the various trench areas of the planet and the Mariana Trench is the ultimate when it comes to trenches. It's awesome to consider that you could put Mt. Everest in it and still have a mile of water of top of it.

I got to hop out of a boat and swim over the top of the Puerto Rico Trench (27, 000' deep) which was creepy yet very fun when thinking about how far the bottom was from my feet.

I was going to say that the most horrifying thing was that all the surface sounds traveled all the way down. Then you said that our pollution travels all the way down and now that is the most horrifying.

I didn't actually see The Meg, but a trailer sums it up nicely... "It's a megalodon, the only one of it's kind... we have to kill it". Humans in a nutshell.

*Number 11* Fun fact: Make your own shrunken (styrofoam) heads. In a documentary a few years back, scientists wanted to demonstrate effects of pressure. They attached a life size styrofoam display head to the exterior of the sub. Went down ? and came back up it was the size of a small fist.

when i heard “space may be the final frontier” i immediately thought “but it’s made in a hollywood basement”

Nice mention of Star Trek. The Marianas Trench was a key site in Irwin Allen's 1961 film version of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, with the nuclear super submarine Seaview the only submarine able to go into the Mariana Trench and survive its pressure.

"Western Pacific Biotwang" sounds like a musical subgenre I'd listen to... Like a weird LA-based psychobilly/techno thing, loads of steel guitars and drum machines.
