One of the wettest winters in years has posed a challenge to British troops based in Cyprus. The island is home to one of the highest military stations in the world. Built in the 19th century, it is now manned by a small contingent of RAF and Army personnel.

Great video. Guess I never associated Cyprus with snow!

I served as an RAF Radar Engineer at Troodos in the winter of 1968/69. The weather has not changed much but the snow ploughs have improved. Ours were old Ford Tractors with a blade on the front. At least we did not have to consider wives or children, there weren't any !!

I still recall with horror doing the daily run to RAF Akrotiri in a LWB Land Rover, no snow chains, and on the old road with huge drops off the side. Not for the inexperienced.

Why aren't we doing winter warfare training there? It's ridiculous only the marines are trained in that type of warfare...
