Hello Sal and viewers, i can help with some of the language i can catch.

2:24 (baka bomba 'yan, walang tao) - "it might be a bomb, there is nobody (on the boat)"
4:44 (lumabas pa talaga ako) - "and i just had to go outside" or "i cant believe i really went outside"
4:53 (pa-andarin n'yo, pa-andarin n'yo) - "start running (the vessel)" or "start getting control of the ship" "start controlling the ship"
5:01 (bilis jan, bilis) - "hurry up over there, hurry up"
5:07 ('dito ba lahat?) - "is everyone here?"
5:12 (akyat lahat sa bridge, x3) - "everyone head up to the bridge" x3
5:16 (ingat, ingat umakyat) - "be careful, be careful going up"

My guess is the crew was majority if not wholly crewed by Filipinos as the who guy went on the ship-wide pa to instruct everyone to head to the bridge addressed them just in filipino and not in English. I suspect the armed personnel were not filipinos, perhaps africans, as the crew communicate with them in English.

I hope they find the missing sailor from MV Tutor. I bet the crew are quite happy to be on an American aircraft carrier. Thank you Sal for your work.

According to the Houthis, after the attack on Rafah, they announced the escalation of operations and said it with all frankness: Any institution or maritime company from any country that deals with Israel, even once, all of its ships become under Houthi sanctions and become a legitimate target for them. They said that they sent emails to companies under sanctions for not passing through That's the way. They gave all the punished companies the names of their ships that went to Israeli ports and became punished because of them.

Thanks for sharing your opinions and expertise Sal. Never knew I was interested in maritime news until I found your channel!

The security team was hired to stop boardings. USV attacks are a different animal. They'll need port states to allow merchant ships to carry guns that can engage at a distance and destroy a small vessel. I say port states since a vessel so armed is not allowed most countries over gun control concerns. But as we see, the navies are not up to the job of keeping the sea lanes open. Probably more a political will rather than capability issue.

Chief Makoi says they're Filipino, and they're speaking Tagalog here.

Problem here wasn't necessarily the security team. Rules of engagement will determine their actions. They're primarily there to deter pirates, not deal with USVs. Hopefully shipping companies learn from this and update their policies. Remember, noone wants to be that guy that shoots up an innocent civilian vessel. That was a local dhow made into a USV, so mariners get used to seeing them constantly, and seemed hesitant to engage. I spent a good bit of time in that area back in the 80s-90s US Navy doing boardings.

Sal, I want to thank you for what you do, educating and keeping us informed. I've been following your channel for a few months now, but this is my first comment.

My dad was born in Denmark in 1922 and was a merchant sailor before and after WWII. Yes, he started young! He sailed on steam ships for Maersk around the world, including the Middle East. He and I both were longshoremen at the Port of Vancouver.

I think about him when I see the hazards that mariners face today. I wish he was here so I could watch your videos with him, and I could hear more of his stories.

5:12 he is saying in Tagalog/Filipino to the crew to climb up to the Bridge where he is standing which is the control center of the ship other than the Engine room or the Citadel perhaps to count and see how many of the crew is still present

8:29 they're wearing blacked out goggles, presumably so they don't see something tactically sensitive. they're treating them as potentially hostile.

PA guy was calling for everybody to go up to the bridge.
All Filipino crew, excepting the security detachment; not sure what they are.

Security provided by the Uvalde Police Department!

The security crew isn't worth the food they've eaten. It amazes me that security could be so bad for a ship and contents worth millions of dollars, sailing in the most dangerous waters of the world.

They may be from Nepal but they are sure as hell not Gurkhas.

We are only at the beginning of what surface drones are going to do to commercial shipping in the coming years.

Not only is there Great reporting on this channel but there’s also humanitarian angle provided . It’s clear these large ships are not just huge chunks of engineering but they also contain people who like the rest of us are just trying to make a safe living.

This channel is a credit to you.
