Strong Australia: Business leaders discuss economic future of Illawarra region

Business Council of Australia Chief Executive Jennifer Westacott, BlueScope Steel CEO Mark Vassella and South32 COO Jason Economidis have sat down with Sky News Australia to discuss the industrial future of the Illawarra region of NSW.
“There was great recognition from the federal government that some industries are just hard to abate, and the steel industry is one of those,” Mr Vassella said.
“The steel industry is technology challenged at this stage around emissions,” he added.
“Recognition in the safeguard mechanism of the hard-to abate industries and the decline rates that we can meet at this stage has been fundamental to us continuing to reinvest in the region.”
