it's so neat how lou's style was so influential on 90s indie rock that by the 90s, his sound managed to fit right in again with the cool indie rock kids.

NYC in the 1990's was nice sort of a technology free world back then.

This song reminds me of a rainy day in San Diego.

Reed performed this at a 9/11 benefit concert that included The Who ( who performed I Can See For Miles) and Paul Simon (who performed The Boxer). Lou Reed's set expressed a love of the city itself while The Who and Paul Simon were poignant and subtle in regard for revenge. The crowd of police and fire fighters loved it. Tragically, Dick Cheney convinced George Bush to attack the wrong nation. Civilians and all.

I sure could have used this song in 1996 when it came out .

I kind of burned out on Lou after the NY album. Up til then I was a big fan. Not so much of his later work, though I like Songs for Drella. Luckily he left us a trove of urban angst music to enjoy as much as we want. Thanks Lou.

I bet the pitch included some performance by Reed and once more he could not be assed to do any promo work...

Don't expect Lou Reed to sing like Johnny Mathis; his Street Songs will sound weirder if he sang it SLICK. He TALK-SINGS to give a feel of Urban Realism to the songs; it is a Man On The Street who is singing (or talking), not an Entertainer In A Music Hall. And Lou is bringing that Non-Singing Style in Song Stages, that's the IRONY that most people complain that they don't understand (although they don't complain about RAPPERS).

He simply cannot sing. This is 'orrible.
