Days Gone fans are not happy

News recently dropped that Bend Studio would not be working on the next Days Gone and fans of the series are not happy.

Basically, a new Bloomberg report whipped the form warriors and fanboys into a frenzy when it revealed a number of details about Sony’s approach to greenlighting only the biggest and least risky AAA games.

New details were revealed about an original Last of Us Remake currently in production, secret studios, an exodus of veteran devs, and even the shuttering and reshuffling of Sony’s smaller Japanese developers.

However, what seems to be upsetting fans the most is the revelation that Sony turned down a pitch for Days Gone 2 due to the mixed critical reception of the first Days Gone.

To fan the flames a little more an Ex-Sony Bend developer and Days Gone game director Jeff Ross appeared on David Jaffe’s YouTube channel to discuss some of the details around the Bloomberg article.

While Days Gone 2 seemed like a pretty sure-fire bet to fans AAA cost millions of dollars and so there are arguably some legitimate fiscal reasons why Sony wouldn’t want to risk swinging and “missing” a second time.

However, the first Days Gone is a bit of a fan favorite, and if it doesn’t make the cut then what else is Sony willing to leave behind in the new console generation.

I’m actually genuinely disappointed about this, the gameplay itself was pretty good but not the best, but the loved the story and that ending. Truly a shame

Game studios expecting/demanding every title be a AAA smash hit is becoming the death of creativity. There is plenty of room for B-tier games and sometimes some of the best stuff evolves out of them because they are allowed to be little more weird, unique, and can be built for a niche group rather than "appeal to a mass audience". Days Gone may not have been a runaway hit, but it sold well and damn if it wasn't fun to play. It's real disturbing that the game turning a profit isn't enough for Sony. It seems that being profitable doesn't mean anything anymore; the game needs to be making all of the money ever to be considered a success by publishers now.

I admit I'm kinda sick of the favoritism in AAA games where publishers will pick titles that "succeeded" regardless of actual performance, and will market them as giant successes while throwing moderately successful titles under the bus.

Gosh. I guess when it comes down to it, I'd rather spend $70 on a new IP than a better looking version of a game I've beaten 3 times.

Honestly this whole thing reminds me of the lead up to the Xbox one launch, I know they're focusing on first party games instead of the Xbox "entertainment station" plan but the restructuring and lack of focus on innovation and experimentation scares me. I feel like companies and studios do best when they are allowed to grow organically and focus on what they want rather than what corporate wants.

I am pissed - Days Gone was outstanding. I realize there were some technical issues at first. but when I played it, most of those were fixed. That said I would be interested to see their new IP.

I just finished days gone and now I am very disappointed they turned down 2 for a TLoU remake what a joke and knowing this might of happened in 2019 which means we could have it by now or next year
