I'm 70 and have known more than a few well-off people. Three of them would be considered 1%ers (retirement income over 500K, assets over 12 mil.

Being fairly close to conversations with them, I have concluded that many - perhaps the majority - of very rich people fit into two main categories which may ceross over:
1) Inherited wealth, along with inherited contacts to remain wealthy. They do feel smarter than the rest of us.

2) They are financial predators, with associated social instincts that make them view others - and other's personal characteristics through the lens of an opportunist. This group is absolutely certain they are smarter than the grazers. Also, more important on a cellular level.

Genetics, resources, hard work and luck. You can be a super genius and never get the right opportunity. You can work very hard and be brilliant and someone who has an inheritance can crowd you out of the space. You need multiple variables to make it to this level of success.
