I used to work security at the conventions in the 90s. I met many of the stars durring that tine. My favorites were Matk Leonard and Armin Shimnerman. Shimerman was a complete riot. It was his first convention and he was developing his autograph. He was extraordinarily personal with the fans, taking pictures, chatting, and just generally excited to have fans.

I came to love Enterprise and Bakula as a captain and wish it continued. So there.

Never met any of them at a SciFi Con though I did meet and have a great conversation with Star Treks "Scotty, " James Doohan, in a Redmond, WA Safeway in the early '80s.

I saw William Shatner on his “Shatners World” tour. He was hilarious! The whole time I kept thinking to myself “it’s Captain Kirk! It’s Captain Kirk!”. I’ve met a few of the others including George Takei ( he was in the elevator with us at a convention) and Michael Dorn. I hung out with him for about an hour talking about planes as he had a T-45 training fighter jet. He didn’t really want to talk ST. But as soon as I mentioned his plane he lit right up. He asked me how I knew about his plane and I told him I saw him on discovery wings. He was at our private air charter company donating his time to fly a doctor and nurse around to help children with cancer. I believe it was called “Angel Flight”. I took him on a tour of the facility and we went inside out Challenger 600 jet. We were both sitting in the cockpit and in my mind I pretended we were in the shuttle together. I said “should I raise the shields?” He just laughed. Nice guy. He used to be on CHiPs too, if anyone remembers that.

YES, I have met many of them. I was the vice-president of a club that organized and hosted science fiction conventions so yeah, we got to know each other. My favorite: a toss-up between Uncle George and his early morning tai chi and the gracious De Kelley. (But getting drunk with Mark Lenard was fun, especially since he had never seen the episode, "Balance of Terror" before and he admitted, over a bottle of Glenlivet, "You know ... this was really pretty good, wasn't it?") Yes, sir, it was.

My mother once did some housekeeping work for John Delancie, who played Q in an occasional episode of Star Trek TNG and Voyager. I only knew that she was working for some TV star but didn't know that it was him until we were both watching an episode with him in it and she said that that was the TV star that she was working for. 😮😂‼️

The green girl in "whom God's Destroy" was Yvonne "Batgirl" Craig. The one in the thumbnail is Susan "Vina" Oliver.

OMG ... I was victimized by that Friday Night Death Slot! With fantasic long-term memory, I do recall all but begging my dad for the right to stay up and watch this, citing it was start of weekend and I had done all my homework first as I was a pre-teen back then. And thus bonding my father's love for SCIFI to my own. You did an outstanding job of weaving these varied episodes together with clever commentary. I'M SUBSCRIBED NOW!

I really liked Enterprise series. The whole "expanse" sequence had multiple problems: captain of a starship torturing a prisoner, stealing warp coils from a good samaritan, and the pilot episode had a Klingon on Earth. That retcon'ed cannon. Klingons were supposed to be met in deep space, resulting in war. That's why Federation carefully surveils a new society before establishing first contact. However, the worst science fiction is better than the best soap opera. And Star Trek is great science fiction! The beginning of the Enterprise series and the end were wonderful.

The original Star Trek was both a seminal moment and a huge landmark in the history of television... and to think, Lucy and Desi Arnaz were part of that vision :) America, what a country! lol

A good video, but it unfortunately passes along a common fallacy about Star Trek - that it was cancelled due to ratings. Herb Solow, in his book Inside Star Trek, set the record straight. The show was cancelled because the special effects made the show too expensive. The network would have needed to charge Super Bowl level prices on ad space to make their money back. This is the reason why most SF shows only last 2-3 seasons. The ones that last are the ones with quality scripts and next to no optical effects.

I also loved Enterprise, favorite episode was Azati Prime.. awesome destruction of the Enterprise, bodies were flying out of the ship and the music score was intense.. Favorite show was Voyager, shame they never made a movie ..But really like the fan based Star Trek Continues all 11 episodes and Vic Mignogna was terrific..

ST-TNG was mostly just an updated version of the original. Two episodes though stood out for me - "The Inner Light" and the episode where Tasha Yar is killed off. Unremarkable until the last moments when Data asks if he missed the point of her funeral and Picard says no - he got it right.

I shared an elevator with Nichelle Nichols at a convention once. I also heard James Doohan, DeForrest Kelly, and Brent Spiner speak at different conventions.

I think my favorite episode was "City On The Edge Of Forever, " but there were so many good episodes it's hard to choose.

i've watched star trek since the original, and improbably saw it with my grandmother as a kid when it first came out. i would play with marbles on the floor with my brother during commercials. it was nearly a religious event when tng came out: i would go to church sunday morning, go ride my motorcycle (which i rode to church), come home make food, drink beer, and watch star trek. good times!
