“That’s Not My Child” #wait

Newborns, particularly those with darker skin tones, often experience changes in their skin color during the first few months of life. When a baby is born, their skin may appear lighter than expected or have a reddish or purplish hue due to the immaturity of their melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color.

Over the course of 2-3 months, the baby's melanocytes gradually increase melanin production, causing the skin to darken and settle closer to its final color. This process is natural and can vary depending on the baby's genetics and ethnicity. During this period, the skin tone may change subtly or noticeably, and it can take a few months for the baby’s complexion to fully develop and stabilize.

This gradual change in skin color is a normal part of development and doesn’t indicate any health issues. By the time the baby is a few months old, their skin color will generally be closer to what it will remain throughout childhood, although it can still continue to change slightly with age and exposure to the environment.

Genetics can also play a part. A child can be born not resembling anyone in the immediate family only to turn out to be the spitting image of a great great grandparent.

🙄 9 months floating in total darkness… being white as a baby beluga shouldn’t be a surprise.

Melanin is not like mixing paint... it's not an 'even mix' of shades. Genetics is so fascinating!

Keep in mind that 1 in 3 tests do not mean that 33, 3% of the kids are not biologically related. The reasons people take these tests is largely because there are already suspicions, because it's not a normal procedure in most counties

My daughter was born dark red color with black hair. I’m central Asian (Mix of Eurasian and other) and my husband comes from Latino background (he’s a typical Latino with mom side more European) but our daughter is Snow White with light brown sandy hair with blondish highlights now. She also had dark gray eyes now they are hazel. She doesn’t look anything like when she was born. Hair also changed from straight to wavy.
What’s most important, she’s precious to us regardless what she looks like ❤

My sister is mixed race, I'm white and her dad accused my mum of cheating on her because she's lighter.
He was married to someone else... enough said

Edit: my mum didn't know he was married until my sister was 6 months old... he's the liar . Not her.
He's still mean to her to this day, calling her a Chinese man's baby..he throws money at her. Horrible man.

My family friend just gave birth to a beautiful baby with red hair and slightly tan skin. Both her and her husband are darker complexion with black hair and we all wondered why the baby was like this. It turns out from the dad's side one of the relatives had this trait of having red hair, so eventually it skipped a generation and finally showed up on their baby 💗

I'm shocked that many people in the black community don't know this. My childhood friend, my little sister, and my mom's friend son all came out white and got darker as the months passed by. You'd think it was a common occurrence

1/3 is the high end of that estimate, it's 17%-33% and that's for people who already suspected they weren't the father. That number probably also includes cases where the mother isn't sure herself and so has the men who might be the father get tested so it doesn't necessarily mean that any infidelity or deception was involved. The numbers for the general public are much lower, although there are differences between countries, some as low as 0.2% and others higher than that.
I suspect that the numbers for paternity fraud are also probably on a downward trend now since it has gotten a lot harder to get away with it in recent years.

Imagine posing in front of your newborn like this and having the image spread around the world. This family is off to a bad start. Poor child!

Just think with common sense. If you and your wife are darker skin and your baby has NEVER been exposed to the sun, then wouldn’t you think that is why the baby is light? As a darker skinned person, when I part my hair and expose a section of my scalp that’s never seen sunlight, it’s whiter than my palms. Like, I’m so sick of the how slow and ignorant people can be.

My husband has light skin, blue eyes and light hair. I'm brown, brown eyes, dark hair. Our baby could come out anything in between and we'd know he just took after one of us more than the other. Excited to see what genetic combo we get as we both have interesting mixes in our families

I remember a friend's mom saw my newborn picture once and asked my parents why we had a Mexican baby hanging up. 😂 my parents had to explain it was me. I went from a pale skinned, grey eyed, silky straight haired baby to a brown skinned, brown eyed and curly headed teenager. My friend's mom was so confused until she got see my niece go through the same transformation before her eyes. 😂 babies make a lot of transformations

Genetics in general can be weird like that. My brother and I have grey eyes despite everyone else in our family having brown. My parents explanation was always I got mine from my mom's fertility doctor and my brother was left in a basket on our doorstep. 😂

one out of three fathers who are challenging paternity. that’s wildly different than 1/3 of all fathers and all children.
