Cole Porter's catalog is huge and varied, but there's thread that weaves through his work, the use of parallel major and minor sounds... borrowed chords and melodies that add surprise and color to his songs.

Thank you for pointing these angles on music out to us plebs. Fascinating as always.

Always loved the deliciousness of mixing of major & minor, light & dark in Cole Porter's songs.

Thanks for this. I'd never really looked closely at Cole Porter.
Another genius of the American songbook is Hoagie Carmichael. Maybe you could explore some of his songs? I adore Skylark.

I used to play loads of Cole Porter songs in gigs, but honestly I never really understood their structure, because they are so condensed. Thanks very much for dissecting these tunes and thanks for all your theory videos. They are really good. I know you love the Great American Song Book, but could you perhaps cast some light on the language of Wayne Shorter and Astor Piazzolla, if you have a spare half hour or so?!

He plain says it in "Every Time We Say Good-bye".
