In the Bible, "The Satan" may not mean quite what you think it means.

Hosted by Dr. Moiya McTier & Dr. Emily Zarka, FATE & FABLED explores the stories and characters of mythologies from all around the world - why they came to be and how they impact us still today.

Fate & Fabled is produced by Spotzen for PBS Digital Studios.

Not quite. The _sheitan_ is a title, like "counselor" for a lawyer. It's applied to the other side in a debate or argument. So the _sheitan_ is basically anyone who's arguing with god or trying to tempt people. So not a "force" but a person who's filling a certain position.

Nowhere in the bible is Satan described as being red with horns. He is actually described as beautiful, as an angel, which is what he was.

I prefer the interpretation that says the title The Accuser of The Adversary means the character was a lawyer.

And then we have the Shedim, which weren't necessarily evil other than that they weren't God and people worshipped them as gods. Some weird history later and Shedim was translated to Daimon then to Daemon and eventually becomes demon. But modern ideas of demons rarely are like the Shedim which were really the Jewish reconceptualazation of the gods of other people.

doesn't the bible describe satan as a literal angel that fell from heaven for wanting to place his throne above Gods?

I think people get tripped up because they don't know that Job is a work of fiction. Like it was never meant to be a literal story about how heaven works. It was a fictional story to teach important lessons

Isn't Satan only mention in the Bible (not counting Revelation which is dubiously canon at best) like two times? And Hell mentioned once in very vague terms?
