We DO see Snow White as kind. She helps a baby bird find its parents right before the huntsman tries to kill her. That is literally what makes him change his mind. And I think she feeds the other birds before that.

Personally I wouldn't call Snow White bland; she's designed in character like a "Team Mom" and a pretty strong willed one if she's able to get a bunch of grubby miners to wash up before dinner soon after their first meeting! She's just not really given much spotlight and character focus like Cinderella did to correct that problem.

Snow White is a very respectable first try. Disney also had a hard time drawing realistic male characters at the time. That is partly why the prince doesn’t have much screen time. The movie was also fueled by emotion than characters. As you said a lot of the critized elements in Snow White hadn’t been refined yet. It was their first try.

Snow White is actually a very complex and inspiring character! She's a hard working young girl, who doesn't complain about it, takes life the way it is, she's not afraid to make decisions and try the unknown. In many ways she's stronger and braver than any other Disney Princess. Don't underestimate Snow White!

Omgosh! This breakdown was just phenomenal as always. it’s amazing that one could easily forget that reason why a classic is a classic and seeing it helped shape and form anything that comes on in the future. I’m not gonna lie, snow white wasn’t my favorite Disney movie but I understood classic sense behind it. Seeing somebody break it down at Disney formula from the classic and seeing between every movie since then just feels like refreshing reminder to always respect the classics. 4:19 I think we see a fair amount of Snow White's kindness on screen, especially when interacting with the dwarfs. When she believes that they are orphaned children she helps clean their entire house. When she finally meets the dwarfs her kind nature allows her to be a second mother to the dwarfs. And when she sees an old woman in need of shelter she helps no questions asked. So I think her kindness does shine through in the movie, even more so than Aurora's who we don't see helping or caring for like her predecessors.But I still think this was a really interesting video non-the-less, and your other points were well made

I love Snow White. It's one of my top 5 favorite Disney classics. The film is absolutly stuning and the score is beautifull.

While I love the idea of a princess without a love story, I don't agree with the idea that a princess without one is somehow better. You can be in love and still be independent and strong, the implication in of itself that you can't is anti-feminist. Mulan, Jasmine, Tiana and several are very independent and strong, finding love doesn't change that, getting help doesn't make you lesser.

I have to disagree with the two preceding princesses being "more interesting" and that Disney developed better female characters in Cinderella and Aurora. Out of the three, Snow White has the most agency and takes action even when it scares her. She is willing to take on the role of a mother in order to support herself and she actively chooses to do so. She is also more expressive and interesting to watch despite the blurriness. And we do know how pure she is with the baby bird scene. She is kind and gentle and worries about the well being of others however she doesn't let Grumpy's misogyny hurt her - in fact she wins him over. To say that Disney "improved" with the next two princesses is also ignorant to the times when the films were made. Gender roles were in question during times of war or economical unrest which was the political climate at the time Snow White was made and released (WWII and the Great Depression). After the war however, women were told to go back to the home as suburbia was developed and popularized. The ideals for Aurora and Cinderella consequently took that step back and you see they have less agency in their own films. Snow White is by no means perfect but it was able to not only tackle misogyny, it created a like-able character who literally illustrated how to overcome adversity with her own agency and positivity.

Sure, we don't see how the Huntsman watched Snow White grow, but he sees how she tends to a lost baby bird and helps it find the parents. And also the story of Cinderella focuses a lot on her because the original tale is told entirely in her perspective, whereas Snow Whitr is told from multiple different angles.

I love disney romance and I am saddened by the fact that they are slowly moving away from romance. I also don't care about how strong a character is as long as they are likable.

Ariel has a pretty face, but *very* expressive. I think that's becausr the animators decided to combine the personalities of hers with a perky dolphin they were going to use as her best friend before Flounder.

Snow White was my first Disney film, I remember my Nan surprising me with the VHS when I was about 3. So it will always be special to me <3
