What happens if either of these programs go down or the company shuts off the servers some time far in the future? I plan to use one of these two to document my life for decades to come and I need to be sure that they can be stored in an accessable way locally on a hard drive

I must say, this is one of the best comparison videos I've seen yet! Evernote is great but so is Notion... I'm still an Evernote power user but am slowly putting Notion to use too - a part of me hesitates though - because Notion's big failure at present: no offline notes! With Evernote, I can access EVERYTHING on my one laptop regardless of internet access. On my other laptops and mobile devices I can have select notebooks available for offline use - great for travelling!

A narrow view of search and tags... ... tag is more like filters in a dB. So say limit the example to discussions on evolution, names that would maybe be I titles include Dawkins Gould and Conway - but Feynman would only be in a tag or the body text. But from my say 20, 000 notes, and say 8, 000 in the science notebook - I can click the tag Evolution - and find say 450 notes - ALL in the note title listing "Note list" column... ... I can then apply either further tags or search to find Feynman.

And due to the search - the only "stack" I have is used for old dead project notes. just to limit the normal viewing of notes that are true reusable reference or live work and projects.

And as noted elsewhere, offline Evernote wins hands down - given over half of my working weel is outside a WiFi bubble then Notion just doesn't even enter the race, yet.

Clippers - not yet fully tried the Notion one - BUT - the Evernote one manages to clean and strip out much of the trash from say YouTube or Amazon pages, etc. to give a clean(-ish) capture, and the ability to have entries arrive as mail (paid feature) needs more emphasis, as does the internal OCR of Evernote.

Evernote tables - are limited and the function is pretty useless when you then try and read/edit or add on a phone level device.

Also - in both systems, if you have a bit of discipline in you naming/titles convention will cut down on the need for wide searches.

Evernote also has notes limit.
The maximum number of notes that can be saved is 100k.
