Here is what you'll need!

HOMEMADE OREOS
Makes about 40 sandwich cookies

INGREDIENTS
Cookie
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1¼ cups dark chocolate/special dark cocoa powder
½ teaspoon baking soda

Cream Filling
½ cup butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

PREPARATION
In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened butter with the white sugar, until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs until fully incorporated.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking soda, breaking up any large clumps.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, and mix together until combined.
Turn the dough out onto your surface and push together into a flat square. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 325˚F/160˚C.
Remove the dough from the fridge, and for ease of rolling out, divide the dough into 4 (this way the dough stays cool longer and prevents the need of re-chilling later on).
To roll out the dough, place a quarter of the dough between two sheets of parchment paper (alternatively the dough can be rolled out on a lightly floured surface - though the parchment is prefered as it prevents any additional flour from altering the color/appearance of the dark cookies). Roll the dough between the two sheets of parchment to ¼-inch thickness.
Using a small round cookie cutter (alternatively, we found the rim of a champagne glass to be the perfect size!) cut the dough into individual rounds and place on a large parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving at least ½-inch between each cookie.
Pack together and re-roll out any scraps to cut additional cookies. Repeat with this process with each remaining ¼ of the dough.
Bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes. If baking multiple trays at the same time, be sure to rotate the pans in the oven halfway through.
Remove and transfer cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely.
To make the filling, combine ½ cup butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a medium mixing bowl. Beat together until light and fluffy.
Assemble the cookies by spreading a generous scoop of the icing onto one of the cookies and sandwiching it with another. Give it a light squeeze and scrape any excess off to clear and even out the sides.
Enjoy!

Anyone else get weirdly upset when the cocoa powder got on the edge of the bowl?

I did this and it was AWESOME. The cookie part tastes EXACTLY like oreos, although the dough was a little stickier than it was in the video. The cream was quite a bit sweeter but overall they were amazing :) If you do this, roll the dough out to be quite thin (it'll be crispier) and don't go too heavy on the cream when you're assembling the cookies!

How To Make Oreos:
Step 1: Take flour, eggs, etc and mix together to make the top. Bake.
Step 2: burn down the house.
Step 3: Go to the nearest market.
Step 4: go in the sweets aisle.
Step 5: Buy 10 packs of oreos.

Edit: also, having a broken ambition and a screaming mom. Credits to SGT QAAS.

I’ve made this before and they are really good. I made a huge one and put the icing on it and everything and put it in the fridge. They are really good cold. It tasted like a Whoopi pie and I really recommend making this.

For the people wondering if this actually works or tastes good, I made it and it's pretty good. The cookie part is a little dry but a sip of milk afterwards helps with that. It's also not too complicated so really anyone could make it if they had the right materials.

They have bioengineered ingredients, high fructose corn syrup, etc. in Oreos. I will take homemade any day! ❤

I made these with a mix of half jet black onyx cocoa and Dutch process cocoa (olive nation and Amazon both carry them). and they turned out much better than the Bon Appétit version. I think the egg helps a lot in binding them and keeping them from crumbling apart at the slightest pressure. I think one extra tip aside from the type of cocoa to use is to freeze the cookies once you cut them out on parchment paper (so they won't stick) for half an hour. This keeps them from spreading into pools of dough and burning. If you use regular cocoa or even that Hershey "special dark" cocoa, they don't taste as dark and rich and deep as real Oreos. Depending on your oven you might need an extra minute for them to get super crisp.
