Eric goes through the easiest way to clean a wood stove door, and should be the ONLY WAY. DO NOT use chemicals, window cleaner, wood ash, or a razor blade. All of those have a chance of deteriorating your door over time.

The soft cloth and ash method is reliable and easy. Just slightly wet the cloth first.

Excellent idea! After our huge freezing rain event about a month ago and no power for a week, our wood stove has quite a bit of soot on it. I was wondering how I was going to get it clean. Now I know!!!

That works with loose carbon. For baked-on carbon, the only thing that gets it off is Easy Off oven cleaner. Spray the foam on cool glass and leave it for an hour, then wipe it off with a wet sponge.
