Of all the YouTube guitar instructors, Justin is the one I PICK....

I’m embarrassed to say this.. but I’ve played guitar off and on since I was 15. Some years I was obsessed and played every day, to not plying again for a while. I’m back at it, and really dedicating myself to my instrument. In my study, I’ve found I’ve picked up bad habits as a self taught guitarist. Had to swallow my pride and ego, and go back to basics. Even.. how to properly hold a pick😬 I realized my 2nd and 3rd pick fingers were scraping the strings as I was strumming. This video really humbled me and fixed the issue. Now to lose those years of muscle memory practicing incorrectly. Don’t be like me if your a beginner. Learn the correct way the first time. When is started playing there was no YouTube. You could either afford guitar lessons, or you figured it out on your own. Glad I found your channel! What an excellent resource for study. Your the best!!!

Just as I thought I was losing interest in playing guitar, I come across your lessons, and lots of doors have opened up wide and lights have come on! Thank you, Justin!

Thanks for putting this up, this is something I have really struggled with and usually give up and play with my fingers which is fine but you can't always get the right sound with fingers.

Thanks for this. Suddenly, after a year and a half of learning, my pick is starting to take a walk!!!
I felt really discouraged but now I realize it's a common problem that has a solution.

This is so helpful. I never thought of using my other finger to push the pick. When you have a question just ask Justin. You're amazing. Thank you so much.

I recently applied two-sided tape to my pick. It helped.

Wow, wish I'd have found this a while ago. Thought it was just me and picks. Was manipulating the pick constantly, as it would always slip around no matter what I tried. I even tried putting my first finger all the way behind it and sort of using the nail and pick. I gave up and started using my fingers. Now I find out that even professional players like Justin have to manipulate the pick.
Great video Justin

I have a pick cutter that I use to make them out of credit cards and other cards. The raised numbers on the holding area prevent spinning, and I have so many thicknesses, I measure them and sort them. Consider a cutter and never run out again

I recently switched to using the Dunlop Flow picks and find grip substantially better than the tortex and nylon picks I have used for years. They are more expensive but worth it for the grip in my opinion. YMMV

getting the pick out of the sound hole after it flies into the guitar is an art form in itself,

Try this, it works! Drill 2 x 2mm. holes in your pick vertically about 5mm. apart. Thread a piece of elastic (knicker elastic works well!) through. Tie it in a loop to fit your thumb (you may not get it right first time). You can then hook the pick on your thumb. It's then impossible to drop it, it won't move, and you can hold it lightly and comfortably. I've been doing this for many years, it works for me!
