Scientists monitoring this iceberg since it split off from Antarctica in July 2017. It melted around the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. It released huge freshwater that is equivalent to 61 million Olympic-sized swimming pools. This is a huge amount of meltwater in the ocean. The next thing we want to learn is whether it had a positive or negative impact on the ecosystem.
