it went from "please dont force me to kill her" to "dear fucking god please let her die" really fast and that messed me up real bad

Having someone turn into a monster before being killed by the protagonist is usually done to make it less disturbing but it had the exact opposite effect here. Hearing her corrupted screams & seeing her corpse in such a corrupted form fitting to her own inability to remember the person she'd been prior to becoming a figurative monster just made the whole thing feel like even more of a senseless tragedy. That & you basically had to kill her twice.

When you try to defeat a boss but the soundtrack joins them and they team attack your feelings

Some games made by studios with billions and can't even make you give a shit about what happening on screen. Some games made by one dude with pure enthusiasm, and they leave moon size hole in your heart and make you cry like a child.

Ah, yes. The textbook definition of "penultimate bosses that are way cooler than the actual final boss, " up there with the Necromancer from Castle Crashers

Its really telling when a single soundtrack makes you want to play a game you know nothing about.

When I was against Agent White I commemorated every seed Mina stick into him, but with Black every seed was like a stab in my heart ;-;

One incredible detail I didn't even notice when playing the game myself is that Robin's idle animation permanently changes after she kills Black - she's no longer bouncing around, but instead stands still and just...stares, while trying to catch her breath.

I think it's so fitting for this song to play both times before Robin technically kills. In a way it's more as if it's the theme of those that you wanted to save but knew you couldn't.

That said, not enough people mention Royal when they think of this song.

In the end, they all died for nothing.

This soundtrack made a hole in my heart, it’s so emotional, and even the fight, it was full of sorrow. I wish there was an anime for this game with same soundtracks.

This is one of the only fights I've seen in a game where you have to fight and kill an evil, awful, sad person and makes you feel evil, awful, and sad while doing it. Nice job Joakim for making such a gut-wrenching game character.

I can’t believe that ivory monster was actually her. How sad

In a similar vein to the Orphan of Kos, fighting Black/Madelyne is one of those situations where even if there were an opportunity to spare them, they're too far gone, too broken/desperate to take that olive branch. Killing them isn't really good or right as much as it is simply necessary, both to end their pain and stop them inflicting any more on others.

Never knew a fight could have been this emotional

this entire fight; the tragedy in the music and soundscape, the beautifully terrifying designs, the absolute desperation of it all… it’s stuck with me ever since i played this game years ago. I’ll still never forgive robin’s brother for starting this all on an impulsive destructive action.
