Panzer Dragoon Orta Official Trailer (2002, Sega/Smilebit)

Panzer Dragoon Orta is a rail shooter video game published by Sega for the Xbox. The game was released in Japan in December 2002, the following month in the United States, and three months later in PAL territories. It is the fourth console game in the Panzer Dragoon series, after three such games on the Sega Saturn. Panzer Dragoon Orta was developed by Smilebit, one of Sega's second-party developers (before merging with Sega on July 1, 2004). This makes it one of two Panzer Dragoon games not developed by Team Andromeda (the other being Panzer Dragoon R-Zone), even though Smilebit included many of Team Andromeda's former members.

The game focuses on a young girl, Orta, who has been held as a prisoner her entire life, before being freed by a mysterious dragon. As she rides on the dragon's back through a post-apocalyptic world, she must defend herself from the forces of an oppressive and militaristic Empire, who believe she is the harbinger of their destruction.

Panzer Dragoon Orta presents a rendering bug when run on the original Xbox 1.6 models at 480p but a workaround has been found.

It was made forward compatible with the Xbox 360 on April 19, 2007. The game was made compatible for all regions.

Panzer Dragoon Orta is a rail shooter: players can control the dragon's position onscreen, and may briefly slow down or speed up (the latter can be used as a potent ramming attack), but ultimately are in no control to fly about the level. Attacking is performed by holding down a mappable attack button, maneuvering an onscreen cursor over enemies, and releasing the button to fire a volley of arching lasers at each target. Orta is also equipped with a rapid-fire pistol, which can be used by tapping the attack button instead of holding it down. Enemies must thus be defeated before they vanish offscreen as the levels "scroll" by, with the exception of boss battles, which take place in environments that "loop" until the boss is defeated). An onscreen radar marks enemies in the dragon's immediate surroundings as red dots. Using the Right and Left Triggers, the player can rotate the view 90 degrees to the left or right. This way the player can look in front, to the sides or behind the dragon and take down incoming enemies. A Life Gauge displays the dragon's current health. When the dragon's health reaches zero, the game ends and the player will have to redo the entire Episode. If the dragon dies during the final boss fight of the Episode, the player also gets the option to restart the Episode at the boss fight.

I still think about this trailer on the Xbox to this day. I still remember the song!! Everything about it felt so otherworldly. My whole family would play the Tao Fang demo, and my sister and I LOVED Jet Set Radio Future. It feels like not that long ago, but also ages ago at the same time. I was, what, five? And I'm 25 now. 20 years. Jesus. Such a strange and mystical world the trailer painted, I wanted to know more about it so much, but I could never find the game at the video store.

I like how the Orta trailer uses the theme of Saga
that song was so good they used it for an entirely different game

0.45-0.46 these notes open up so hard. Like a fully charged attack annihilating multiple enemies… that feeling. ❤

remember seeing this from the jsrf/sega gt trailers. i had to have been at least 5-6 years old, going into a gamestop with my dad and spotting a copy. i’m sure i threw an absolute fit over it, but i got it. at 23 years old now, this game and the series as a whole has a big place in my heart 🥹❤️

I remember as a child, I went to Hollywood video hoping I could rent this game. Sadly, it was out of stock. Usually, I was a well-behaved child, but I became furious and caught a fit. My mother was embarrassed and once we got outside, she slapped me in the face. After this magnificent presentation, I felt in love with this game before I even played it.

Once I got my hands on it, I ran it into the ground. My disappoint and outrage as a child was well justified.

I never saw a trailer, I was at either Grace Brothers or David Jones and I was in the game section, I had recently gotten an Xbox and was looking at the games. I found it randomly and knew I had to have it, from then on I looked for dragon games, but never found anything that great, not as great as this that’s for sure.

This game made me cry and rage so much, it was so incredibly difficult. But I did end up finishing it years later and every boss beaten was such a grand feeling of accomplishment.

I love the Pandora’s Box option that allows for infinite berserk and immortality, awesome stuff. Really allows you to just fly and enjoy the scenery and music without a care in the world.

I also like that you can choose which dragon forms you wish to use in this section, allows you to really get a good look at how they all look and than the choice to choose other dragons/vehicles was awesome too.
